EDIT: Bear in mind this was a straigt to video movie made in like 1993 or so people. It's going to suck.

Ok, I just got this one and I will try to keep the actual story and stuff quiet but there are some things I want to let you guys know.
1) special effects are really bad. Some of the effects look like they come straight from the 70's. Saturday morning live action stuff is better, really. Human Torch's flame blast is a simple light show that could have been better done with photoshop and frame editing. Reed's stretching is also really cheap. Sue's dissappearing is passable and they do implement it well. The Thing (physically) looks bad. One, he shrinks like 6 inches from his height as Ben Grimm, then he's like 180 pounds or something. I guess being a fan of the comic series hurts me now. Casting overall is pretty poorly done also. Dr. Doom is ok, his cloak looks bad (like a scratchy wool blanket instead of sleek and reflective) but the mask is a good copy, if somewhat cheap looking. The worst news is that they DIDN'T do voiceover work for him so his lines are picked up from the boom mic overhead THRU HIS MASK. Yes, everything is terribly muffled and if you pick up half his lines then consider yourself lucky. I got to the point where I was just going by the context of what the next person said in response to him.
It's kinda serious but they try to do the lighthearted touches ala Batman (like where they might have Joker happily dancing and then kill someone). Problem is they got no Jack Nicholson. You'll see how they did try to copy everything that worked in Batman tho even as far as referring to him (Torch says "Holy <something>, Batman!")...and this in a Marvel movie? That should never have made it past quality control. The comedy is thrown in at a very uneven pace and watching The Thing just walk is painful. Even coming up with the costumes was corny. Sue simply makes them and hands Johnny one and says "it's flame retardant". The man can burst into flames, it's either gonna burn up or snuff them out. I can't see the flames going THROUGH it happily like a flyswatter and then just slipping away. Could we not have introduced the unstable molecules here, folks?
They also jump from point A to point B too quick. One day Victor is a classmate of Reed Richards, then he dies, then he's ruler of Latveria...ten years later.
This movie is nowhere near X-Men or Spidey quality, folks. Let's hope the real movie coming out this Summer is better...well, it's gotta be. |

Well I just found out that this is not the version due to be released in July, it's a never released, rejected version. I have never seen it anywhere else before but it may well be twenty years old judging from the level of quality (actually it's from 1994 so it's only 10 years old).
Here's the link for more info.

I got scammed on this one, sorry.

Ah.....the original movie done of the F4. Yup it was a stinker of epic proportions. But since the new movie will be coming out soon, we don't have to close the thread, just change the topic line of it. |
