HOW WAS THIS MOVIE OPEN-ENDED?!
SPOILER
The 3 women were dead since the beginning of the movie. They were allowed into Silent Hill in order to bring the realization of the fanaticals deaths to bare. Right now Sharon and Mom are dead they just don't know it yet but at the end I think the Mom realized it.
Remember the cops found the jeep right on the other side of the bridge but there was no one inside it.
It explains why the father went to Silent Hill and nothing happened to him because he wasn't trapped in Limbo like the others.
So it was a good movie but I was expecting an open ended ending and got the Sixth Sense treatment. |

Overall, for me, it wasn't a bad movie. But it wasn't the best either. ^^ |
Really, the reason why I'm so happy about it and I think it's awesome is because of the attention to detail to imitating the games. As an adaptation, this movie is bloody brilliant (no pun intended).
As a scary movie, or even a movie in general, I have no idea how good it was because I spent the entire movie in amazement of how accurate it was. ^o^

Some people didn't get the fact that they were dead (I had to explain it to one of the people I went to see it with), and in that sense I can see how they would think that it was open-ended. And honestly, it didn't outright say that they were dead, so I can see how maybe some people might have missed that part. |

[SPOILER]
The following is just my interpretation based on my knowledge of the nature of Silent Hill from the games.
"Dead" is a bit misleading, I think. Since the Jeep was empty, that means there were no corpses within. Sharon, Rose, and Cybil were completely *assumed* into Silent Hill, bodies and all. The problem is that, by helping Alessa to get her revenge, she was caught in Alessa's hatred, same as the other denizens of the town. Alessa's revenge gave her no peace, only proof that her hatred was strong enough to affect the whole world around her. As you see from Sharon's expression in the ending sequence, Alessa's spirit of hate has become one with her, instead of the "whole innocent child" that one was expecting.
Silent Hill is sort of like the "Hell" in Event Horizon - you don't have to die to get there. For example, look at the fact that outside of bad endings, none of the main characters wind up "really dead" in the games.
I think the ending *is* really open-ended, since Alessa's vengeful spirit is not anywhere near being at rest, and is taking great pleasure in using Rose as a vessel to leave her twisted prison Silent Hill - since Alessa became one with Rose in the hospital, it's now possible for her to extend her "world" to the world Rose knows. I'll bet if they try to go past the borders of Rose's known world, you'll see that same Langoliers-esque dropoff.
Different interpretations, methinks.
On an unrelated note, I'm cheesed that they never explained Pyramid Head. It would have added another layer of strangeness had they explained that the punisher/tormentor that the "living" ran from used to be one of their own. |

I've never played the games. So, I couldn't be taken aback at how accurate the movie was. Therefore, to me, it was just a decent movie, nothing particularly spectacular. ^^ That doesn't mean I don't expect those who -are- familiar with the games to love it. That's their deal, whether they like it or not. |

I think in the credits it said he was the janitor (the actor i mean) which either way i find kinda funny
also i can't believe Pyramid Head was around for over 10 seconds and didn't molester anything.. thats like all he ever did was kill stuff, molester stuff, and be all red glowy and creepy.. but he did show that cultist woman what for.. so that was cool |

Strangely enough, Pyramid Head and Pyramid Head's victim (Anna) were played by the same person. The Janitor was the corpse in the bathroom stall. |

I was kind of (a little) disappointed at the lack of Pyramid Head's involvement in the film, as well. I don't think he got as much coverage as he deserved.
[SPOILER]
As for Alessa becoming one with Rose, it was my interpretation that she left Rose when Rose bled into the floor and opened the doorway for Alessa to enter the sanctuary.
And even if she was still with Rose when Rose and Sharon left Silent Hill, they were still on a seperate layer from the real world--which is why Chris could smell her perfume, but they couldn't interact with each other.
You're right, though--the ending of the film has many bits that can be interpreted in different ways. But any way you look at it, there's still a solid interpretation there, not something grey and fuzzy.

Really, the movie was more fanservice than anything. Fans loved it. Everybody else was kind of like, "huh?"

He ripped the clothes off of her first. Doesn't that count?
Plus, I think he got off on torturing Rose and Cybil. X)

Oh wow!
[SPOILER]
How did they do that one scene, then? Where "he" kind of turns her into dog chow? |

Nevermind my comment (which I apparently failed to delete) about Pyramid Head's actor. The cast page on IMDB is full of errors. Including a supposed appearance of Valtiel the Yellow God. The Pyramid Head is apparently, as Shinigami said, played by the same guy who played the ill-intentioned and ill-fated "Colin the Janitor". |

Ah, I was wondering about that. (I checked IMDB right after posting, and they had several duplicates and mispellings...I thought that was strange).
On a side note, that actor must have ad a TON of fun playing two of the most demonic characters in the movie. |
