Well, little do you know, I am actually making little coconut bombs as we speak. I'm wearing a disembowled parrot on my head and chanting oms, and hopefully by the end of tonight I'll have enough firepower to cover Georgia in poo.
O___o
lol. But in all seriousness, I don't think my opinion is "better" about this than anyone else's. Honestly, I speak too much. Probably because I'm outspoken.
*hugs everybody* |

However, I do agree with Mr. Buda here. Cattle, like many other animals, are mostly raised to become a food product of some type. Humans as a species are omnivores. There is very little on this planet we can't eat. I, myself, love steak, bacon and various kinds of poultry.
Please don't misunderstand me, I don't kill animals for sport. I don't kill anything I don't eat. At least not on purpose. We're all a part of the "circle of life". Cow eats grass, man eats cow, lion eats man, man carcas fertilizes grass. And so on and so forth.
Oh yeah, try to take my bacon and you will pull back a nub! |
Technically, humans are fervavores I may have misspelled that. Our digestive tract is designed for eating plants and grains. Our intestines are too short for meat and it tends to rot inside. Dose this stop me from eating meat? Nope. But the world would be hella better off if it was vegetarian. Did you know you can feed 20 people on the grain grown on the amount of land it takes to feed one cow? |

Chesh - the only sources I'm finding that back up your statement about the human digestive tract are "Go Veg" sites (and even those sites are claiming that the human intestine is too *long* for meat, not too *short*).
And that's the last thing I'd like said about vegetarianism in my thread about political groups masquerading as animal welfare or human health groups.
And Kudasai - if you're using fluorocarbons in your chili...hell, dish me out a plate. |

Hypothesized functions for the appendix include lymphatic, exocrine, endocrine, and neuromuscular functions. However, most physicians and scientists believe the appendix lacks significant function, and that it exists primarily as a vestigial remnant of the larger cellulose-digesting cecum found in our herbivorous ancestors. Some people note, however, that the pineal gland which only recently (around 1960) has been found to produce important chemicals like melatonin was once considered a vestigial remnant as well.

The appendix has no known function in humans. Evidence suggests that our evolutionary ancestors used their appendixes to digest tough food like tree bark, but we don't use ours in digestion now.

Our appendix is a developmental derivative and evolutionary vestige of the end of the much larger herbivorous caecum...In most vertebrates, the caecum is a large, complex gastrointestinal organ, enriched in mucosal lymphatic tissue (Berry 1900), and specialized for digestion of plants (see Figure 2; Kardong 2002, pp. 510-515).

The purpose of the human appendix is not really understood. We do know that some animals have a similar organ, which is used to process vegetable fibre.

hah, its possible that our cellulose digesting organ shriveld up and died during evolution, we should be carnivors!
Well accualy, most of the sights i looked at said "maby" and "its posible" or "there are theorys that" but it is an intesting thought. I also wont leave out that one or two i looked at said there was little scientific evidence to suggest it, but that seems to be the most widely accepted theory right now. |

Blunt request:
This is not a thread about vegetarianism, or theories about the human body's function in regards to meat. This is a thread about groups like PeTA and the HSUS that would like very much to control how people are allowed to interact with animals. There's a link I edited into the first post of this thread that's meant to be a jumping-off point for further discussion.
I feel as if this thread is getting jacked across to a debate I did not want to bring up, and if it continues to go in that direction I will ask for it to be locked. I don't want to sound like a tyrant, but I kind of did start the thread. So please, can we keep any further posts confined to subjects of:
- Eco-terrorism
- Food nannies (without getting on the subject of veg/vegan/carnivores)
- Charitable groups that push dangerous agendas
I'd rather this thread wind up a wild romp through the silliness of Scientology than continue on the topic of vegetarianism.
On the initial topic - Chesh, you mentioned you're against animal cruelty. I violently agree with you. My only problem is that too many groups want to theorize about animal psychology when determining the definition of 'animal cruelty'. I have actually heard of chicken farms being touted as 'cruel' because the living conditions aren't unsanitary, or dangerous...but because they're demeaning to chickens. |

I really don't have anything nice to say about PETA. I'm 100% against cruelty to animals, but I don't see how cruelty toward people justifies their cause. People are animals too.
I heard news report once of a extremist animal rights group (not PETA) that fire-bombed a animal testing lab, thereby killing all the animals inside, in protest of animal cruelty. Those animals went from sleeping in their cages to fear and panic before being burned alive. Most people would call that torture. |

Sounds like it might have been SHAC (Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty). They're known for destroying animal testing labs without first "liberating" the animals. Also known for open death threats against the researchers therein.
Could have been ALF/ELF, too - but the MO sounds like SHAC. |

theres a thread in here somewhere that links to Pen and Teller's: Bullshit, a bash agaist PeTA and animal rights terrorist groups. They bring up alot of good points ad i agree with all of it. The funniest part though, PeTA bought a huge refrigirator to eutanize animals, and that same year they ended up untanizing more than 2/3s of the animals than they "rescued" (i think)
