It is very free form in that you don't shift to a battle screen first off. Your allies will attack and perform on their own unless you give them a specific command. You can also still move around freely. That covers the basics really. Once I got a good feel for it, the system was easy to manage.
Apparently the game takes a hint from X-2 by offering missions that will offer goods and progress the story.
Though if I may gush a little bit, the summon system is both kind of iffy, but also frickin cool. Once you summon a creature it's just the summoner and the summoned. He or she will basically kick the crap out of said enemy or boss. By the time it was done it had pulled off a massive finisher to complete the demo. I see much fun just trying to summon stuff to see what awesomeness they bring.
All in all it will come down to trying it for yourself and deciding wether you'll like it or not. Plus keeping in mind this is just a demo, and that there may be plenty of stuff being worked out. |

*laughs at $75* I still remember the days of $70 and $80 SNES games (specifically Killer Instinct at $70 on launch day and Chrono Trigger still at $80 several months after launch). Of course, we all know that the cost of media is a lot cheaper, et cetera, but as good as DQ8 looks (for once, cel-shading that doesn't look low-poly or poorly-lit) I can't really blame them for price jumps. Can't wait to see how it all comes out.
And just for the record, I have hated every non-MMO Final Fantasy Demo since 8 and loved the games anyway (except for Final Fantasy 9: Journey Into The West Reloaded, which I still just can't bring myself to like)... |

Apparently there is going to be a Limited Edition guide as well, I'm sure it'll be chock full of Artbook Goodness. For those inclined Gamestop is taking preorders on both game and guide right now ^_^. Also I don't know about nation wide but our store is having a promotion where they basically give you 10 free bucks to preorder stuff with. Its saving money in the long run if you know you're gonna get something down the line. I would inquire about it at your local stores. |
