I haven't posted here in forever XDD

I hope everyone has been doing well. Junior year was WAY hectic for me. And now i'm a rising senior. @_@ Applying for colleges now.. eeek! I've found out that Northwestern University in IL is my dreamschool for a lot of reasons.

So, may I have some advice from the more experienced?

First, I know this might sound silly, but... what does "weighted" and "unweighted" mean in regards to GPA? I might be familiar with it, but I don't have the name association. What's the difference?

Also, when applications ask for GPA's, what do they prefer? Weighted, unweighted, including or not including extracurriculars...?

I'm... pretty much a noob when it comes to this. :D be gentle. Highschool is not preparing me for anything other than obsessing over grades, knowing how to use the wrong methods to get things done (cheating, lieing, brown-nosing, etc), and... making me hate life. Rawr! *obviously anti-high school*

k anyway. How's everyone?! :DD

Oh, and here's another random update on my life:
I have two new baby cousins. Twins, half-asian. Adorable, but screamy and poopy. :D

Maybe I'll get around to posting some art sooner or later.... X3

Usually schools with Honors or Advance Placement (AP) classes give more points for attending those classes. For example, a B usually gives you 3 points towards your average, but a B in an AP class will count as 4 points. Basically it's a way to bump your GPA higher because they figure the hardness of the classes shouldn't reflect too poorly on your overall GPA. Your average GPA with these extra points is called "weighted". Your average GPA without the bonus points is known as "unweighted". For example, Let's say you got Straight B's on your report card. All of your classes are AP. So you get a 4.0 weighted, and a 3.0 unweighted. Get it?

It depends on the college you go to. Most higher ranking colleges/universities will look at your unweighted GPA as the primary factor for your admission. Extra Curriculars are nice, but they're basically a tilt factor. The most important thing to have is nice GPA, Extra Curriculars will give you leverage if your GPA isn't up to standards or if you're on the border. Colleges want "well rounded" students so extra curriculars are groovy if you have em.

Personally I think High School is no better than a baby sitting center. I would have liked High School more if I were able to take classes I was actually interested in and that might help me pursue some kind of idea of what I wanted to do with my life. Instead I felt more like I was pressured into playing some kind of Numbers game in order to prep College Entrance. What a waste of four years. It's a pretty flawed system IMO. I once thought about being a teacher, but all the politics and loops it takes to get anything done is a real chore. Although on the one hand it isn't all bad. I made alot of good friends in High School... /ramble

Pretty good personally! As a whole PO has been doing alot of stuff while you were gone. We've got a few new comics, and a series of POdcasts that should be entertaining to listen to. Just click the "Goodies" section for more info ^_^. AWA is just around the corner as well, so everyone will be getting excited about that. Hope to see you there!

As said above, "unweighted" GPA is simply GPA calculated based on your grades. "Weighted" GPA is what your GPA would look like if the difficulty of honours or Advanced Placement or IB or whatnot courses were taken into account - generally, it's a boost given because the courses are on a college-type level. Unweighted is likely going to help, but the weighted GPA is a good thing to show off as well, especially if you get good grades in the weighting classes.

I think most of us are anti-high school, simply because it seeems like a pointless waste of time (which was what it was designed for, to some degree). Too bad that it's not teaching you anything useful. You'll get it in spades at university.
