Shy, n00bs, or CK??? Hmmmm..... I guess I'm..... I dunno. What about me? I work alot so I can't post that often but today is my shiny day off!!!! Waitaminute.... today is moving day.... wtf am I doin posting on a goofy topic when I should be out and about, burning calories and whatnot.

For the crime of being a lurker, I am guilty as charged.

I'm a member of at least four or five forums aside from this one, and I've probably made 8 posts on each one, at the most.

Take Pocket Otaku, for example. I've been a member here since 2004, and I've only made about three or four posts.

I much prefer IRC, IMs, and other chat rooms to forums, as I prefer to talk to all my Internet friends in real time.

I didn't think much of it until about half a year ago, when I was banned from the IRC channel #rockmanexeonline, where I was a regular for over a year, for reasons that I'd rather not discuss right now.

One of the ops said that I should become more active on the forums if I wanted to be a real part of the community, since that particular community was more or less born from the forums.

I wasn't sure whether I believed her or not, but I tried becoming more active on the forums.....and failed miserably.

There are three main reasons I hardly ever post.

1. I'm too preoccupied with a bunch of other crap.
2. Nobody's talking about anything that interests me.
3. Whenever I start a thread, only two or three people bother to leave a post.

Please help me, Pocket Otaku. How can I break out of this lurker shell, and become a true forum member?

You know, I NEVER did forums besides here - and honestly I think it was the flashy PO that kept me posting until I got 'hooked'. Im like you, Im just not really a forum person per day. The ol instant gratification from IMs is great, but theres a certain pace to IMs that fast and kind of random. Seems like reading a forum is more...like the thoughts are collected and organized when they're posted. It more like a meaningful converstation, that a fast one like IRL or in Im filled with pauses..."uh" moments...stuff you say just to fill the time, getting off topic, etc.

So yeah, I dont think theres anything nessessarily wrong with being a lurker. As long as your getting out of the experience what you want as an individual. Lurk on!

Right...how many of you have seen me post in the last year...of course a lot has happened in the last year that has taken up my time. But I hear there is a request to start posting again. So I'll see what I can drag up to discuss...oh acutally I jus thought of something. Razz

You kinda have to do some lurking to learn the lay of the land. I'm getting there, I guess. I'm already a Junior Otaku! hehe

I just don't have the time or the high-speed internet to really get in here and look at everything. Not to mention I have to multi-task a ton to get by in life. I'm really happy to be here though...not to mention the fact that my local IT dept hasn't found this site to block...yet. It took them nearly 2 years to block me out of Gaia.

I don't troll, though I know someone who was reported for trolling (on Gaia) It can turn into a sticky situation sometimes when things are taken out of context...like when you know someone so you poke at them and everyone else doesn't know this.

Spamming can be fun, I haven't really found a good place to spam around here...being on Gaia for so long has gotten me stuck in their mode...yet I seem to be spending more and more time over here. Many forums on Gaia are nothing but spam (b/c Gaia revolves around GOLD) On PO, the spam thread is even a regular thread....

Watching what you do and what you post. I really don´t have much to say in most conversation that is going on here. But I like to listen to others talk so I think I am stuck in thinking like that.
