So, Shado, I guess we're keeping the text option then?
Cingular won out for us because of roll over. If we're paying for minutes, we're keeping them. Plus my Mom has it so I can talk to her for free. And I love not having to call the other CA band members to find my Shadobaby!!!
Isn't Cingular and some other company merging? Do we get to talk to that company free too? |

Not sure if there was anything new, but a couple of years back, Cingular bought out and merged with AT&T wireless, so eventually, everyone who was on AT&T got converted to Cingular. UP was one of those people. And while I already had Cingular, Rollover would have been what would have sold me on it. As I already had it, Rollover was just gravy for me.
Although I only have 450 normal minutes, because of my early nights and weekends and mobile to mobile minutes, I have like 1900 Rollover minutes accumulated, so I can basically talk on my cell phone whenever I want, for as long as I want.

Ok folks, here's the story on the whole Cingular/AT&T thing straight from a Cingular corporate drone (who writes about this stuff for a living)
Cingular Wireless started out in 2000 as a joint venture between Bellsouth and SBC.
AT&T was doing their own thing and had AT&T Wireless
In 2004, AT&T announced they were selling off their wireless branch. Bellsouth and SBC bought it and merged AT&T Wireless and their existing Cingular Wireless into a single company in the biggest cash deal in history (something like 43 million).
Now, AT&T has used that cash to buy out SBC, and soon they will also be finishing up with buying out Bellsouth as well.
So when all is said and done, there will just be AT&T as the parent company and Cingular as the Wireless division. So far, we have not heard anything as to whether they will change Cingular's name over to AT&T Wireless again (and I really hope they don't since our marketing has been SO good lately)
But, that's the story. So far so good for me surviving all the merger crap. I often feel like a sitting duck when it comes down to it since I am a legacy "Orange" (Cingular) employee. AT&T took over everything 2 years ago and I feel really lucky that I still have a job. I took another position a little over a year ago that I think saved my rear from getting "downsized" in my old one w/ the company. |
