And because Walmart has their hands in so many businesses and operations throughout the world, should they fall at some point, we would have an economic crisis on our hands. |

Well they've been looking at opening up a chain of "discount banks" but so far the regular banking institution system has shut that down. They're all afraid of what that would do to the normal US (and maybe) Global economy, but they're only using loopholes to stop it now. They have no real stand alone platform to build on.
As it is, two years ago they said that if Walmart were it's own economy it would be 3rd in the world. Figure that only 2 countries controlled more money than Walmart at that time. I'm assuming it hasn't gotten stronger. Scary. |

A discount bank? No thanks...I'll stick my old school, older than me, bank who gives me a nice deal for being a loyal customer.
My mom made me open a bank account when I was 12 after she saw how much cash I had stashed away through the years from my relatives and allowance...5's and 10's add up after a while
Does anyone know where any Super Targets are in the ATL area? I only know of the one in Sandy Springs, near Perimeter mall and the one they are building at Merchant's Festival...are there any others i'm missing? |

Walmart has been charged with some monopolistic practices, of which I'm not familiar, but the basic principal mentioned above is applicable to me as well;
I want quality and lowest cost, and convenience too. I recently got an eye check by the resident optometrist, as well as bought my glasses and frames in a wal-mart. The exam was like 40 bucks and the glasses + frames was another 65. I'm not picky about a few bucks, I'll say that Terin should understand where I come from when convenience is pretty much more important than cost anyway. Sure I tend to compare prices somewhat, like get the bigger box IF it's less per ounce or something, or get the generic if it's alot cheaper, and often go to the dollar store for certain things that I know are cheaper there.
Um, i think my point is, though I didn't read the link, in general principle, I expect companies to pollute the environment, and I expect the government/law enforcement/tax dollars to randomly inspect and enforce standards that we as a country agree (And I would vote they are likely to be miles away from good) would basically allow the planet to grow healthier. But as it is, with the way money fuels our politics and our government, it's too often those in government are just accepting the status quo and are getting too much money from businesses to institute changes that make their cash flow go into the red. So it's not walmart, it's the sad state of the american government and lack of concern by the public, and Brittney Spears on the 6pm news. |
