XBL wasn't the first one to slow it down. The plug and play games go about the same speed. Also, MadCats (everyone's favorite company to hate) has released an arcade stick that comes with free XBLA downloads. |

I do not remember Ms-Pac being that fast in the arcades. I watched the arcade video first and was all like... "Good lord that's fast!"
I'll check with the ROM later, but there may be some dipswitch settings to speed up/slow down movement... I seem to remember there was a feature like that in the original Pac-Man.
...
Just checked the wikipedia entry and found this:
Some versions of the game had an "expert" level, where if you hold the joystick up while pressing the start button, the whole game speed doubled (including music and sound effects). Others have Ms. Pac-Man going twice her speed while the rest of the game went normal speed. The latter allowed for people to obtain much higher scores.
If this is true, some (most) arcade operators would've opted for the harder difficulty setting... and just made it default.
Man, I dunno. *shrugs* |

I understand that... but it's Xbox Live ARCADE! It should have been the arcade version!
And yeah, I actually got the joystick. Haven't tried it yet though. Played the games it came with though. I think I got like 150 points out of them in like an hour!

If you play the arcade version, you'll notice that the music is the same speed on the arcade as it is on live arcade. And if it is a setting, it would be nice if the XBLA version included those settings!
It's actually MUCH more difficult when it's slowed down. I can hit 100K easy on the arcade. Xbox Live... I have trouble getting 30K b/c it's so slow. |

Yeah but we're in 2007. And the kiddies from 2007 demand games where it's impossible and/or consequenceless to die. |

Every version of PAcMan and Ms PAcman I've played was never as fast as that Arcade vid!
and amongst the two I've played:
Coffee Table style cabinet (PacMan)
normal stand up cabinet (Ms PacMan)
Neo Geo Pocket Color (PacMan)
Namco Museum 5t0h Anniversary collection PS2(both) |

And not in the 1986 Kid Icarus way either. |

Me, I'm more peeved at Midway for only including the arcade version of UMK3 - I haven't played in so long, I'm going to have to bust out the emulator so I can practice the moves. Oh yeah, there's that awful D-Pad thing there, too. Maybe one of the third-party controllers will be better? |

I guess the whole thing just took me by surprise. I have NEVER played Ms. Pacman like this. It has ALWAYS been the way the first video is. Every arcade machine I've played has been that fast.
And if you notice, the speed of the ghosts is still about the same. Just Ms Pacman's speed is increased. |
