The next big release I'm looking forward to on the PS3.
The game looks fantastic. And they haven't gone overboard with the SIXAXIS. They took out the use of tilt control while in ground combat.
Those who have played it are really talking it up. Calling it "Epic." A word I have heard used to describe one other game... God of War.
They talk about how you can see battles going on below you from thousands of feet in the air. Things like that. Watching the videos, this game truely looks great to me. Especially considering my love for dragons.
From the way it's being described, this game sounds like it could be all it's hyped up to be.

New impressions of Sony's epic dragon game.

Although the version of Lair shown at a Sony San Diego press event this week was almost no different from the one demonstrated a few weeks earlier, it gave certain editors who weren't at that event a chance to play the most recent version of the game. You know, such as me.
According to Sony, the differences between what was shown before and what was playable yesterday were primarily in terms of optimization -- the framerate had been improved in some areas, some minor bugs had been addressed, and so on. This is really indicative of where Lair, as a whole, is at the moment: it's essentially finished. At this point, the team is pretty much focused on optimizing and polishing for the game's summer release.
Much has already been said about how the game plays, so after spending some hands-on time with the near final five playable levels -- about a third of the game -- I'm left with two main thoughts:
#1 -- Playing Lair, one word really comes to mind: Epic. Seriously, the experience of flying through these stunning, expansive landscapes with tons going on all around you and a fantastic orchestral score playing underneath is really quite something. You've simply not experienced anything like this before -- certainly not on this scale. The lighting and weather effects (lightning and rain were specifically impressive), the draw distance (you can see for miles and miles), the amount of on screen action at times (tons of other dragons flying through the air, ships in the sea, and warriors on the ground), and the ability to simply and seamlessly switch between fighting high in the sky and down on the ground -- this is absolutely a next generation experience.
#2 -- There is one major worry and it's perhaps a damning one: the Sixaxis controls. At times, the Sixaxis seems fantastic for a game like this -- controlling the dragon's giant swoops seems perfectly suited for motion sensing controls. At others, it feels clunky as all hell. Trying to bash another dragon in close range combat took me out of the experience right away -- I felt like I was fighting the controls. More often than not, I couldn't help but wonder how much more I'd be enjoying the game were I just using standard controls. Now, perhaps the controls will improve with more familiarity, but this is certainly a concern shared by many others who played the game today and in the past.
Factor 5 has about a month left to finish tweaking the game. Here's hoping our concerns with the controls are either addressed or alleviated by its release, as a game this epic really deserves to be played. |

Yeah, I me too, I'm totally picking up what they are laying down. Honestly, I might buy a PS3 for this game, but it will all depend on the game, it's the only one that I give a shit about thats either out or coming for PS3. Hope it's great. |

First thing's first. HDTV. But yeah, after that, PS3. It'll complete the circle that Shino's completed on his own.

What can I say... I'm a junkie.
But look at it this way. I always do it the cheap way.
Got $25 off all of my Wii stuff on launch day b/c I signed up for the TRU credit card... then canceled it.
Got $100 off my 360 b/c I got it from Microcenter when they were doing the $100 rebates.
Got $600 off my PS3 thanks to my Sony Card.
I got all 3 systems for $525.
But yes... HDTV first. I've seen Motorstorm at 480 and 720, and there is a pretty big difference. |

Quality assurance issues delay Factor 5's aerial dragon-battler until early next month.

Well, that didn't take long. Last week, associate producer Ryan Hamlyn updated Sony's PlayStation.blog with news that Factor 5's dragon-dueling action game Lair was on track to meet it's projected August 14 release date, going so far as to say the game was a done deal and had been shipped to manufacturers.
Today, Hamlyn returned to PlayStation.blog with slightly less enthused news. It turns out all systems are in fact not go on Lair, and the game's release has been bumped back three weeks to September 4. As cause for Lair's flight being grounded, Hayden fingered an "extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game." Apparently, unforeseen challenges arose while finalizing the offline game to include online features such as leaderboards and medal systems.
Available exclusively for the PlayStation 3, Lair is rated T for Teen. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage. |

Well, this game is apparently gawbage, very pretty to look at, but plays like a truckload of ass....and not Jessica Alba ass.....fat Star Jones ass............oh well, one more reason to NOT buy a PS3....yet lol. Untapped potential in this game, and so far in this system. An "inferior" system is also running the same games better than the PS3 (Madden '0 which is fine, but when a game that is supposed to be "Epic" ends up being crap, it kind of blows holes in your Death Star. |

Isn't it supposed to play EXACTLY like the Rogue Squadron games on Gamecube?
If so, thats no bad thing in my book, although their movement was a bit limiting they were still pretty damn good games.
Problem is, people are still expecting huge gameplay leaps with this new generation of hardware over the last generation, something thats not going to happen, its not like the 16 bit - 32 bit generation where everything changed, the same happened at the start of the 128-bit generation where people were saying "but they're the same games as whats on my PlayStation, just prettier". This is a problem Blue Dragon seems to be having, when in fact it should be applauded for there being a proper traditional JRPG on the 360. |

Well the game is damn pretty. Some of the most visually stunning visuals I've ever seen in a game.
However the control does suffer a bit. For the most part they work, but it's the moments of frustration that are really getting to me. Like, you flip the controller up to do a 180, but you move it forward (or down) to do a dash. Well 75% of the time when I try to 180, I end up dashing. Annoying. No radar gets on my nerves too, but in reality... why would you have one in this game.
The game is still pretty good though.
So yeah, if I was rating it... it would be in the high 6s low 7s.
Riva... it's a lot like Rogue Squadron, but not exactly.
There are many similarities. But enough differences to make it stand alone in its own category. |
