The one that stands out most to me is the second to last one...i don't think i would ever connect that to Tea and china. Kind of strange.

Man, the ones my dad used to pop off were classic though. And my grandfather...funniest man in the world.

I wub spanish.

There's an funny one that has always stuck in my mind that translates to "I defecate in your milk!" I guess the English equivalent would be f*** you. I get it all the time from my Spanish family. ;]

That is so awesome. I am TOTALLY stealing that. It reminds of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

"Your Father was a Hampster and you mother smelled of ELDERBERRIES!"

What I find interesting about some of those is how much the "odd translation" makes the same sense as the idioms, that they could mean the same thing. Ex: The son of the cat kills mice. Like Father like son. Totally works. Also: To have more wool than a lamb. Having money to burn. That one is almost like another one we have in the states: To have more money than God.

Demon angel

I myself keep thinking of the Python bit about a English phrase book that would translate commonplace questions, "Where is the train station?" for instance, into unwanted sexual advances. Of course everyone just simply adapted. Hearing someone ask a man to fondle his thigh only to get the reply "Ah yes, straight down the street for two blocks, then left at the light. You cannot miss it." tickles my funny bone.

Danke Zinka, for continual linguistic humor!
