Yup... it's coming for the Wii. Not sure why. But that's what it has been announced for so far.

One of Japan's biggest franchises goes to Nintendo.

The Monster Hunter series might not mean much to American gamers, but it's big business for Capcom in Japan, with the PSP editions selling over a million copies each on the portable handheld.
It's pretty impressive news, then, when Nintendo President Satoru Iwata steps onto the stage at their Japanese media briefing today (information courtesy of live blog from Japanese gaming magazine Gemaga) and announces that the next proper installment in the series, Monster Hunter 3, is coming to the Wii. Considering this news comes from Nintendo's own briefing, the title appears to be an exclusive to the platform -- except it was already announced for PlayStation 3.
Does this mean the PS3 version is still on on? Considering the massive draw the series has seen on PSP, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Capcom considering the next proper "console" installment land on Wii, while PSP owners continue hacking and slashing on Sony's device. We'll have to wait and see.

Why not? If Nintendo wants to get serious about they're online capabilities, a game like Monster Hunter would be a big score. I know I'm interested. |

Yeah... IF they want to get serious about online capabilities...
But the past 2 renditions of the game on PSP have NOT had online play. What's to say that capcom won't do the same thing for the Wii.
I sure as hell hope not.
That's my biggest concern. |

I'm thinking... DS/Wii connectivity + Online with this game. |

I can't see NOT having online play, though DS/Wii connectivity is a better bet except that they didn't announce a DS version. I was very disappointed with the original PS2 version tho so I'll hold judgement.
Howevet, game makers are seeing now that de-valuing the Wii's importance was a major mistake and Capcom, in particular, simply needs to move product. Their pre-2000 rep can no longer sustain them and IMO they've spread themselves tii thin to support the few quality (revenue producing) franchises they still have. You drop Monster Hunter with 16+ player capability, online play (including match-maker as well as friend codes), ranking lists, and true worldwide play and Capcom stocks soar.
But make a ''Monster Hunter Battle Network'' fiasco and it's toilet time. Sorry but I am not loving Capcom right now. They kill Clover, destroy the Megaman franchise, and waste their 2D legacy (where's my X-M Vs. SF engine powered 'Capcom Vs The World'?) and I have to jump ship. No more repacked compilations (unless it's for VC/XBLA/PSN), please. |

Even if it was online, it'd be like going back to PSO when we're used to so much more now! |

They don't have to announce it. I said DS connectivity, I didn't say a game that works with the Wii from DS. Remember Splinter Cell on GCN? You could connect the Gameboy Advance and use it as a map and you also had a new tool that you could only use having a GBA connected. That's what I was referring. Maybe even have a small package with a game for DS where you can have like different stuff that you can't do with the DS even when you're not connected to the Wii. But that's just asking too much.
Though I can see this game having potential with a DS connectivity, I don't know if they'll take advantage of that.
Another thing is... Nintendo needs to update the whole friend list crap. Friend codes are stupid. Why do I have to have a new code for EVERY single game? You have a code for your Wii, use that! Kinda like how Metroid Prime 3 did it. So, do something like that, everything will be shiny. |

The-magicbox.com has just posted that the game is now a Wii exclusive with the PS3 version being cancelled due to high development costs. I'd guess that next Xmas will see a remixed version with exclusive missions ince the PS3 has a decent installed base. |

That and that everything that comes "exclusively" for Nintendo from a 3rd party dev seems to always make its way to another console.
Resident Evil 4 and Viewtiful Joe to name a few. Noone likes Nintendo.
I wonder why it was such a high cost of developing. I guess they didn't want to take the time to make it HD. |
