For me its a matter of investment. I really don't buy a game that often, and when I do I want to get some milage out of it. Case in point, I bought into the hype and purchased Soul Calibur 2 when it came to systems. Super game, In a week I was done. When I buy consol, I'm looking for game life and quality of story and overall game play. Graphics are just something used to attract money to the company and to make the story more real - and thats ok. Company's need money and stories can benefit from beutiful graphics, but this is a minro factor for me when choosing a game.
Thats why I primarily choose RPGs when buying a game for play at home. While I appricate multiplayer, especially co-op, I spend more than 90% of my gaming time on my day off alone, or after dark when my wife is in bed, etc. The only games that I've found attractive to buy that weren't RPGs latly were 'Ratchet and Clank's and the 'Jak's.
I would buy into MMORPGS, but lets face it - that utopian .hack-like server isnt out there yet. There are ass holes, pricks, spammers, idiots, and power gamers in the worlds that we try to role play in, and it sucks. I'm optimistic for the furute of On-line role playing, but I feel it hasn't hit the right vibe for 'role playing role players' just yet. Still, my memories of Meridian 59 come floating back to be from years and years ago...maybe I'm just missing out. |

Nah. I'm hoping that somehow we can implement some version of "The World" without the seizures and comas, and that we'll all have a grand time playing together. Of course, that may be a long way off in the future... |

Well I feel you on SoCal2. I bought it too (and traded in some games to drop the price so I thought I was getting a good deal!). Not only was the game pretty crappy for me but I bought VF Evo the same week and it blew away SoCal2. $20 beat the $50 game with ease. Of course I didn't know why I bought SoCal after I got home. 3D Fighting games are 100% dependant on who you have around (except for the DC SoCal and VF Evo) and now that I'm not surrounded by gamers like I used to be I just felt foolish. I tried to make myself like it but it just sucks to me.
As for the MMMMMMMMMORPG it's all up to what you expect and how you control it. The assholes will be there forever (A friend of mine played online and after getting the plug pulled in a cheezy game of Madden said "And here in 2004 it's still the same") but it's up to us to determine how we handle it. I only play my ESPN Football online against people I know. I know before I load it up that if I play a random person the odds are at least 51% against me to get a fair and honest game so i don't bother. I think that's why most of us are here at PO tho. Similar interests, no junior fanboys mucking it up, and quality content. When PO has an online world, we'll be all set, huh? |

Yes, as long as the community is small enough to be easily moderated. I see oftentimes communities which start as wonderful groups, but as they grow, the mods can mod less, and then everything goes down the drain.
This is kinda why I'm glad there's a fee for PO, and it's not a fee you can really ask from your parents. So at least this filters out much of the asshole bulk as far as roleplaying goes.
P.S.: I have an idea as to why SC2 is bad. It's simply because SC1 existed. Had SC2 been the first of the line, it would've had a huge success, but hey, you can just go play SC1 and get very similar graphics and gameplay without forking over a fifty! |

The last Co-op game I picked up was Tenchu: WoH, and you can't co0op throught the main story. It irks me that the age of the co-op is dying, and not because of players, but because of companies. DOn't get me started w/ gba, either. they'll letcha co-op, but you better have a link cable, a whole nother system, and the cartridge. I am seeing the fleeting days of playing Super Mario World with my little sister pass by, and I'm not too happy bout it. we should do a 2-player co-op rpgfps.

Remember Sonic 3? Sonic and Tails! How more co-op can you get! ok yeah you can get better, but wasn't it awesome just to have a friend to pick you up and help you coordinate an attack on Marble Garden's Robotnic boss ... or just have a friend to pull you up to hidden passages? Those were good days indeed. |

I'd gladly take a step back into 8-bit for Double Dragon. WITHOUT the need for a link cable. |

Id like to make my own mmorpg, only if any of oyu have played the jedi games make it similar to that, ninja's could do crazy moves, knights would be less moble but do more damage ect.
just think how cool it would be to be able to take on a hard mob solo cause your good oooooo no that would be to fun.
I wish i could get a job just conceptualizing games. . . how the hell do you get into that!? |
