Sorry, Dai, but you are incorrect. There is only ONE playable character that has the honor of martyrdom, that being Tellah.
Palom and Porom DO actually get revived by the Elder of the Village of Wizards. You see them in the cut scene as your team makes it's way into the giant robot of distruction and you have the peoples of the world untied to keep it at bay.
Yang survives the tower explosion and is cared for by the Nymphs. You can find him in one of the remote parts of the underground, and you get Nymph as a summons. You also see him in the same cutscene as Palom and Porom.
Cid survives blasting the tunnel into the underground and is cared for by the dwarves, and even helps you modify a new airship later on. You see him in that same cutscene, too.
Edward survives not only almost drowning in the wake of Leviathan, but also risks his life (and lives to tell the tale) to help out the team in the evil Goblin's cavern. He is cared for by the people who guard the Earth Crystal. You also see him the (can it be!?) cutscene with Palom and Porom and every living playable character.
Only Tellah leaves this mortal realm, pushed beyond limit from the effort of casting the legendary Meteor spell to take revenge on Golbez for the death of his daughter Anna.
The only other playable characters are those you have at the end of the game: Cecil, Rosa, Kain, Rydia and Edge.
Um... yeah. I love that game.

Ouch, I got owned.
My count was palom, porom, cid, tellah and Fusoya, but I forgot that when FuSoYa and Golbez give the last of their energy to Cecil, they dont die. In fact they go to some eternal sleep thing on the moon when Cecil leaves. And I completly forgot that Cid gives the enterprise the silver hull (or was is the Falcon...anywho). Just goes to show I need to know my roots.
Man, way to get pwnd, Dai - but well played, friend Sperrit.
The point and the question is your then, I suppose.
-Dai, 1 point. |

I forgot that FuSoYa was a playable character, but he doesn't die anyway, so....
New question, hmmm....
How about this:
FF4 features many interesting summons, one of them being Odin. Almost all of the FF4 summons, however, are characters before they become summons. So, WHO was Odin before he became a summons?

Odin was the fake king in Baron castle. My turn!
What city is the invisible man in the original Final Fantasy residing in, and what does he say? |

Sorry to disappoint you there, Demonic, but you are incorrect.
Any other takers?

I distinctly remember acquiring Odin after killing the fake king. In fact, he turns into Odin and to hurt him you have to use lightning.
EDIT: I even remember where he was, down some stairs in the eastern wing of Castle Baron. |

Sorry, buddy, but a day has passed and no one has correctly answered my question.
You see, it was the REAL king of Baron that became Odin, his spirit being sealed in the basement by the FAKE king, whom you kill long before you can ever gain Odin, the fake king being the Fiend of Water. After you defeat the fake king you can come back and find the real king in the basement and choose to defeat him to gain his power, which is the summons Odin.
So, since the day has passed, the point would go to me, and the next question.
I'll throw out an easy (but obscure) one.
What is the real name of the Princess in FF9 AND (since most of that game has to do with honoring past FFs) what is it's significance?

Oh, d'oh! Real king. For some reason, I was under the impression that the general guy was the Fiend of Water, but now I remember... he's just an easy miniboss. |

Damn, I so knew that one. Note to self, check thread >_<. In my defence PO was screwed up the other day.
As for FF IX, the name of the princess is Garnet til Alexandros and the only reason I can peg her name as significant is her last name pertains to the classic summon, Alexander. Other than that, I can't make Garnet stick to anything in my mind. |

Very good. The Castle itself is the summon Alexander. But that's not the question he asked.
The answer to that question is Sarah - Princess Garnet's real name also happens to be the name of the very first Princess you rescue from Garland in the first Final Fantasy Game.
If indeed I get points out of it, take them and give them to the person actively participating with the least amount of points (I'm not participating, really, but I'll be trying to help whomever the underdog is.)
If I'm right, I'll provide a question. |
