Allright, I was talking this over with a few of my gamming friends the other day and am curiouse what you all think of this MMO idea I had.
I happen to be a fan of the TV show Star Gate SG-1 on Sci/FI channel, and was thinking that the show has a lot of potential to be made into a good MMO game. Starting areas could be earth or any established Terran military basses through out the galaxy. Star gates would be loading screens with planets as explorable areas. It would be possible to play a terran military unit or even a Gafa(sp), starting out learning skills, gaining experience and equipment etc. Could even have group events such as destroying certain Ghoul(sp) to gain specialty equipment.
It seems to me that that TV show has all the makings of a good MMO, but since I am a fan of the show I might be a bit biased so what does everyone think of the idea? |

Incase you're curious it is Jaffa, and Goa'uld (I just looked it up, I am not a uber dork)
Any way it’s an interesting concept, but it would be good to make the Goa'uld as a playable opposing faction. Cause then you could battle for control of planets.
But I don’t think it would work, because the show has more of a cult following which doesn’t make developers happy when choosing licenses. |

Well cult followings can be bad when it is a small following but SG1 has a very large international fan base. And who knows, SCI/Fi channel may not want a game made out of it, but as far as the story line goes I think it has all the necisary elements to translate seemlessly to a MMO game. FFXI is a game based around a cult following and you could say Star Wars: Galaxies and EQ2 would be in the same position. Could be the SG1 following is not made up of video game players, but rather 30 something single men that live in their parents basements and play card games and RPGs in their free time, lol. Come to think of it SG1 would make a good card game nd RPG too... ah, nooo, I am hopelessly lame, lol. |

See, I'm a decent fan of SG (not pyscho cult follower).
I believe it has game possibilities, MMO I'm not to sure about though. I believe it would serve better as a large-scale RTS. There's a game that came out a long time ago, the name eludes my memory...Empire Galactica or something along those lines. In which you choose a race and start with a basic tech tree. You research your own technology and build up your colony. You can eventually terraform and colonize other planets and further your race's reach. You can also steal technology from other races, declare wars and alliances. It's a really innovative game for how old it is. I think SG would be a good background for this kind of game. |

That sounds like a really fun implementation of the SG theme. I still think the MMO would be cool, but RTS would work out well also. An RTS would test the waters so to speak for the possibility of a more indepth project namely an MMO. Hmm, I am just suprised that after such a long run of the show there hasn't been any sort of game created about it. |

no, I thought there would be a game too, and I'm surprised there isn't after what, like 6-7 seasons, plus Atlantis that just started.
and the game I was thinking of is Imperium Galactica II.
In either case, an RTS can be a MMO if done right.
EDIT: Apparently, Stargate was a game from the Genesis and Gameboy systems. It was based off of Stargate the movie, not the series though. |

mmm it sounds like it would be fun. I just wonder if it would be good in terms of gameplay and the overall experience of it. Like will it be more than battle after battle. Plus the amount of space needed to make the amount of worlds needed to make it expansive would be quite a bit. |
