I should have Unastrike give you some of his "Car and Truck" magazines. Ever since he cut his mullet last week he doesnt seem interested in them. There are tons of great deals in there. In all honesty sometimes parents do know best, i don't know if it applies to this situation. Becareful with cars my firend. Mr. Fabulous once bought a car against the will of his parents and it would up have "the mystery smell" like in Seinfeld a week after he got it. The smell turned out to be a freakin dead half decomposed squirrel under the back seat.

I know your pain. I am vehicle-less, but am also unemployed and too busy to get a job. And my dad says, "No job, no car." So I just drive his most of the time. Not that I'm complaining; it's a very nice car.
You sound more than capable of buying your own car, and I think you should. Good to hear about the test drive. Just one word of advice: take it to a mechanic and have him check it out before you buy it. They'll catch things that most of us won't notice.

Also look on all the edges, like behind the rubber seals for excess paint. That will show if it had a touch up paint job for any reason. Remember to be crazy picky with everything thats not right with the car. Let the salesman know about it. That shows them you know what you're doing and that can give you something to talk them down with. Just a thought, if your credit is bad or, like mine, non-existant, it might be better on you if your parents are willing to co-sign. That will drop teh interest. The car can still be in your name, it just might help you out some. I just bought my first car from a dealership. Try the dealerships in nearby small towns (if those exist in NY). You'll usually get a better deal, lower interest, and a better salesman. Enough of my jibbering, I'm just looking out for my UP.

Don't feel too bad, I've been without a car since mid spring. But mine's mostly my own fault (killed it at silver dollar raceway). But I've been looking for cars since then and I know what you mean that its hard to find a car, a good car. But good luck, I'm finnaly finding myself a car, now just gotta wait for a friend to sell it to me. Its going to be my 3rd 1st gen DSM, a '93 Eclipse GS-T, and if you dont mind wierd obscure habits of these cars they are fun cars to own.

I've been talking to my dad a lot more since I'm not mad at him any more, and at first he was really concerned that the car doesn't have ABS brakes and he thought that the honda civic had them on all their series, but it turns out only the EX aka most expensive one has it. So now my dad was thinking it wouldn't be so bad to get the elantra.....Oh I forgot to mention....He was thinking about co-signing the loan for me (which is a HUGE step for my dad), but now he's not really sure about it. I have to still find out all the details of the loan, and my dad needs to get through a huge meeting tomorrow then we'll talk about it!
So that's good news!

I'd get a hunday over a civic at the moment, I'm driving my little sisters '02 EX while shes in airforce tech school and things just randomly fall apart or break on it. Oh, and the car only has 27,000 miles on it.

Well it's not really my decision. But I would get the civic over anything really!!! I love that car sooooo much!!! It's just a matter of my dad siging the loan with me, then i'll definitely get the civic, but otherwise i have to get the hyundai.....we'll see
