We (in North Fulton County) are looking for talent at the event. It takes place on May 2nd - 3rd at Centennial High School. I am helping out the entertainment committee, amongst other things, and if you are interested in getting some exposure, contact me! I can get you in! We need a band to play, all types and ages welcome (Hey, we have to go all night so we need many groups), someone to teach something, anything...like...dance lessons, balloon characters, draw, whatever! Any type of artistic talents are welcome. The list is endless. Have an idea? Let me know! Everything is voluntary, so you won't get paid, but the exposure will be awesome! If you want to set up your own team, go for it! The theme this year is Hero's. Any type. It can be from superman, to a fire fighter, to your PO character. You get a camp sight and can set it up how ever you wish. People will go around to every tent and ask you how your...whatever you pick, is a hero. (Chris, imagine the people signing up!) Although the events main purpose to help the fight against Cancer, take advantage of the possible media coverage (possible! no promises, we are working on that right now) and just exposure to people of all ages. Plus the event itself is really fun. It is one big party all night. This is a fund raising event, so be forewarned. But it is easy to raise the money, I have a whole list of great ideas.
If you are interested in finding out what exactly Relay for Life is (put on by the American Cancer Society), either let me know or go visit their website at www.cancer.org.
By the way, there are Relay for Lifes in almost every county in the United States. Go to the website if you are interested to find out how you can get involved in yours. I am telling you...they are ALWAYS looking for people to volunteer their time and don't care if you get exposure in the process. There are sponsorship options and many other ways to get your name out there. Plus, well, you are helping a really good cause. |

I wish I could have come, is martial arts part of the things we can teach there? 'Cause I would have volonteer to teach basic notions in martial arts, that would have been more like philosophy class then an actual dojo where we spare. How far away is Goergia from Motréal, Québec? Might be able to make it there, only I hope it's not anytime soon X_x. Bleh, beside I'm canadian, what are the chances that I might be accepted anyway? I'm not saying this in a discriminating way, it's juat that if it's an american thing, they may just want american to participate. |

First To BWS:
We are way to far away for you to come down here. But I really do thank you for your support and your idea. I am now thinking that I can teach some basic self defence moves as one of the fund raisers while at the event. Georgia is in the south eastern corner of the US, just north of Florida. So you probably wouldn't make it down, but check for one closer to you, perhaps in Maine or someone else in New England. And don't worry about discrimination. I have Canadian friends down here... they are just like everyone else. To me anyway.
To PO people in GA:
This would be a great oppertunity for us to get together and meet. We could make a Pocket Otaku Team for the relay. Also, show off your talents for a worthy cause. Doot, Chibs and Sakura, you could draw pictures for people to raise money. I could do the self defence thing or something else if I can figure out what other talents I have. Bowlergirl could do Mary Kay demonstrations for the women. Sabet, you could make capes... granted that would take some time... but you could show off some of the ones you have done. This would be a great way to get exposure for you and whatever you do as well as for pocket otaku. We could even try out the card game there before we go to ACen. The theme this year is "Heroes." Well isn't Pocket Otaku basically a "Create your own hero" idea? If anyone is interested or if you know anyone who may be interested, please let Skibirdi and I know.
Skibirdi was telling me about what went on at this event and it sounds like a load of fun and for a good cause. Please, all Atlantan POers, join in on this.
I have a unique reasoning to support this. Not only is my Girlfriend a Cancer Survivor, but my father died from the very same type of cancer that my girlfriend beat.
Please join us in this. Soon... no one will die from cancer.
Note: This is a fund raising event. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
Thanx a lot,
Shino (Chris) |

All I can say is... wow!
I do have some suggestions for things you can do. Amtgard, for one (you remember that party with the foam padded weapons? I know the local group down there and we are a not for profit group who recently did a fundraiser fo CF up here). Besides, it's great stress relief.
Another thing you can look into is finding masseuses (sp ?)in the area who will donate their time and energy earlier in the evening.
Also, one thing that keeps people going at events are drum circles. I believe there is a really cool SCA guy in town who is great at setting those up.
Perhaps an improv group? I don't know of any in Atlanta but I do know some in florida who may have some hook-ups.
Maybe yoga?
Oh, and of course you can count on me for some cloaks. I also make a men's peasant shirt that I deemed my official "fundraiser shirt" I could probably pump some of those out for ya!
You just let me know what you need Skibirdi...

AH! I am so excited! You all have some amazing ideas! All are welcome. Any hook-ups are more then welcome!
Ok, so I should probably get into some more specifics. The actual event takes place on May 2nd-3rd. It is a team event to help raise money for Cancer related issues, such as research and other services provided by the ACS (American Cancer Society). Some of them include Road to Recovery and Look Good, Feel Better. There are soooo many, but that is just a few to name. If you are interested in finding out what those are, let me know or go to the website: The American Cancer Society We ask that each team has at least ten people, with a captain or two co-captain. You can do whatever you want to raise money throughout the year. Corporate sponsors are greatly appreciated and greatly needed!!! PLEASE, if your company or you know of a company or organization or whatever that would like to be a sponsor, let me know. I have all the info. There are many different levels and each level has different benefits. (such as name/logo on the event T-shirt that everyone gets, banner in a special location throughout the event, etc...) And, actually, it is not as expensive as you think. You can also be a sponsor by donating something instead of money, such as water bottle for everyone, toilet paper (Don't ask, we had a little issue with that one year... :err: ), and so many other things. We need someone to sponsor the survivor shirt still, the luminaries, and many other things. You probably don't even know what that stuff is. I will explain more later...
BWS-1: You are more then welcome to visit!
As Shino said, no need to worry about being Canadian. BTW, although we are called The AMERICAN Cancer Society, we do stuff abroad. Sorry, I am trying to recruit as many people as possible. It would be much easier to go somewhere in New England, but if you feel like traveling...I would be more then happy to help you find a hotel in the area or what ever else. Martial arts would be a hit! Yes, that is totally something you could teach. I am tell'n ya, anything!
Shino: (even though you are sitting next to me as I write this... Thank you for your interest. This really is an AMAZING event. It is sooo much fun. Everyone in this area, there is a Relay Rally on Jan 23rd. You can find out all about this event and see a video of last years event so you can get an idea what it looks like. (I think I made it in...for like two seconds!) Plus you can get an info packet with all the details. The Rally is mainly for team Captains and for people who think they might want to be a team captain...or are representing their team, but they won't turn you away if you come. It is at Buca on Mansell at 6:00. I am one of the presenters, so you will hear from me a good bit. (Yes, I am really involved with the ACS, I actually just came from a meeting tonight). I have been through it, and I would not wish it on my worst enemy. I was diagnosed on September 17th, 2001 with Hodgkins Disease. I did the Chemotherapy (which sucked) and went through all the side effects you hear about. It has changed my life...for the better! I am now dedicated to this fight. I am, obviously, very open about it and would always be more then willing to answer any questions about my experience or about cancer related issues in general. I was lucky...but not all people are...
Oh, and yes, someday....NO ONE will ever have to hear the words...you have Cancer.
Saleb Duvat: That sounds like fun with the padded weapons...but please think of liability. If it is something where someone might get hurt, you will need to look into that b/c you may not want to get into that. Plus you would have to check that out with the ACS b/c they would have partial liability also. I will check on that for you and let you know...
OH MY GOSH....A Masseuse! You should have seen me when I read that. umm...YES! that would be beyond awesome! He would probably be the hit of the event. He would really have to rest up for that! Me first!
Drum Circles...tell me more. And yeah, I will take you up on any hook-ups for that!
Improv! HA! That would be awesome! Count me in, I LOVE that kinda stuff
Yoga... oooo......
Cloaks...selling them? That would take a long time, wouldn't it? I mean, don't let it sound like I am discouraging you, that would be unbelievable! Go for it!
Ok, so now that I have been writing forever and Chris...Shino, is feeling lonely, I am going to wrap this up. Any more questions? Please, post and I will reply. You can also always call the ACS at 1-800-ACS-2345 and they will connect you to the RFL person in your area. For N Fulton her name is Ashley, she is awesome and so helpful.
OK! getting off now... |

I think I can swing it! Poor Shino has been asking me what to do but this lil Doot has not had a decent nights rest lately so my brain isn't working right. So lemme see what I can come up with. The drawing wouldn't be so bad. Plus it'd get Chibs out of his place and outdoors. Hehehe. Us poor PO's never see the light of day - chained to our desks. Making more PO's.... would be cool.
I lost my grandfather last year to cancer, and my grandmother a few years back, so I'm all for it.
When they had the big bus drive around on tour, it was right after my grandfather passed and we had made some really great stickers for the family's car with a green thumbprint (my grandfather was an exquisite gardner) and his name "Lucky" underneath it. Sciler put it on the bus. I'm starting to tear up here. ~composed~

Thanks again Sci! |

I remember you showing me that.
Maybe I can get my mom to come (doubtful but I will try). I'm not sure if she has ever been to a rally.
Mak and Sci. I would really love for you guys to come too...
You too Akira (c'mon I need someone I can pick on). Besides, if we do the Amtgard thing... I need someone to best the stuffing out of.
Dootsama... do you think Kat would join us? |
