Well, I was browing the MSN network for news and I found this. Im sure lots of ya will find it interesting and helpful.
http://www.msnbc.com/news/963391.asp
Apparently this company is suing internet users that share music with music share progs like Kazaa. Even though no specific program was mentioned, people got sued and most of them got a warning from their internet companies. I dunno... some people just suck. Read it, like I said, might be useful to ya. You might be saved by this or not... :\ |

If you go and record a song off the radio it is for PRIVATE use only not shared with millions of other poeple which by copyright act is permitted whatever you may think about what the IRAA is doing it is not only legal but moral I mean not only that but they are REQUIRED by law to defend thier copyright in any way possible or else face losing the copyright themselves and i dont wanna hear any crap about well a cd is too expensive or that the record companies have to much money and this is how im going to protest what they are doing uh uh BS is all I have to say i mean if you cant afford a television do you go and break into your neighbors home and steal thier television to show the television companys what for no you dont If you dont like the cost of CD's or think that the record companys make too much money piss on you dont buy the CD its thier material and what they choose to do with it is thier business and if you are STEALING then you are a fool, if yer gonna steal prove it and go rob a record store where you cant hide behind mommys and daddys name who mind you subsequently will be sued if you use thier machine to dowload muic\software\video ILLEGALLY........any more retarded statements? |

I'm glad only the music companies are suin for their rights cause Kazaa for me is a porn inlet more than anything...hehehe
And Jes.... What you say is true but at the same time you have TONS of DLed music on yer comp so yer just sayin what they're doing is right you just don't care. |

Jester, i take back what i did in the randomness thread, that is the LONGEST run on sentence EVER. please try to make your posts uh... well easier to read. and i have almost 500 songs on my comp, but i still go out and buy cds every so often. its just nice to have the songs on my comp, and most songs usually get deleted or burned. i dont let people DL things off of me on kazaa, so effectively im not sharing it. what i burn onto cds is for my PRIVATE USE and only my private use. to me that is the same thing as recording it on the radio.
oh and morally the RIAA can kiss my ass. do you know how much money a band makes for each cd they sell? roughly between $0.30 and $0.50 usually, with a few exceptions going under or over that range, but those are rarities. so i assure you, if i want to support a band i like, there are MUCH better ways to do it. go to their concerts, where they make a LOT more money per ticket, even though for local gigs the ticket cost is ~around the cost of a cd. or buy stuff of them other than cds. or hell, give em money. i can assure you, 99% of the bands out there, id rather send $10 directly to them and dl their music off the net, than go out and buy all of their cds so they can make about $2. |

And what do we do about people whose tastes run away from the media that the RIAA would have sanction over? do they control the rights to Game Music and Animation Music that was not produced in this country as well?...
Which, incidentally, is about 95-97% of my playlist... |

Well, Im still a bit confused on this matter. I mean, most of my playlist are songs that either are meant for d/l like remixes of games that dont come in CDs or songs that I ripped or d/l after my CD-Rom went berserk. And 2 days before I found this article I found another article saying that some CD company was gonna drop their prices of CD's to under $10 for a limited time to see if the sales of CD's raise against the d/ling of music. So, I think everyone is taking their own way of countering this d/ling problem. But, I guess I still dont know where one stands if you DO own the rights to that music. (Owning the real CD) And is it ones fault if when you go to d/l you're japanesse music, game music or whatever you d/l and other's download from you. I mean I didnt tell them to take it, they just do !!! There's so much on this that they really show or let us know. We (the defendants/users/sharers/whatever) have to have a good defense againts all this crap... but what ?? Might there be a loophole ??
Only time will tell... |

Don't worry, with the upsurgance of bands recording, producing, and distributing their own CDs (assuming, of course, this minor trend continues to expand) organizations like the RIAA might not exist soon. Hell, why do you think they have gotten all sue-happy? Becuase they are doing well economically? Thought they might jsut be greedy. By the way, I don't download music or games of the internet illegally. |
