Anyone Dance? - let's shake ur bon bon!!

I love to dance and I can say that I’m a good dancer, I’ve started ballet since I was 5 and I participated in school competition for traditional dance since I was 11. Apart from traditional and modern dance, I can also do the salsa, merengue, cha cha and lap dance.

Currently, I am taking classes for belly dancing or ‘rak sharki’, before I took this class I thought this dance is easy (I can do exactly the dance Shakira did in her ‘whenever, wherever’ and ‘objection’ video clips) and I joined the class because I wanted to know/learn the dance technique.. Boy, how wrong I am.. It’s not just shaking, twisting and rolling your hips and shoulder. This beautiful dance is done with the whole body, not just the ‘belly’. The dance improves flexibility, coordination, general health and self-esteem. Every gesture sensuous, every movement womanly, it is a joyous expression of the soul and a celebration of the body. The dance is usually done with undulating hips and a body that gyrates shakes, shoulder rolls, figure 8, hip shimmies and traveling steps.

Anyway, I will be performing ‘belly dance’ in my company annual dinner next month as our theme for the dinner this year is ‘Arabian Nite’. I hope to give good and entertaining performance.

dancing is fun. I wanna learn how to break dance. Currently, the only dancing that i am VERY skilled at is Dance Dance Revolution dancing. Its quite fun. Also, if i attempted it, i could probably be very adept at cuban type dances, because of my miraculous ability to hold a beat and what not.

also, i can relate to what you said about the belly dancing Skylah. When my family and i went to FLA, we went to a polynesian restaurant, which also included a polynesian show, and that included belly dancing. If you wanna check out some of the fast paced dances, u should check the restaurant out...its called Mai Kai.

I tried Belly Dancing about six months ago. Let me tell you what I have learned, this discipline requires a lot of strength in the chest area... especially if you have large breasts. There were only three of us in the class who had consideralble size in that region and one left during the class. The other girl never came back for another class. I tried two more but when I realized it was the underlying cause in my chest and back pain and the innability to lift my son (which was THE most important thing), I had to stop myself. So I applaud you in your dedication Skylah! You are, by far, a stronger woman than I!

I don't officially "dance", but I tend to tap my boots about when I'm standing around. People occasionally ask me if I am a dancer, which amuses me to no end.

We have 'Lady Salsa' from Cuba in town for 2 months now.. Tobias you should learn salsa, its so much fun..

Saleb, you're so right.. I had hips and shoulder aching the first 3 classes I attended but I'm ok now.. guess with my ballet background I have kindda soft and flexible body..

Glad ur liking it Skylah! o dancing.. no way.. I cant dance well... I can waltz and cha-cha, and do the foxtrot etc. (thanks to cotillion, ugg..) Old shtuff. but no i dont dance its scary!
