I'm so tempted to just not go in today. Or ever again. Waiting tables is a miserable existance. Arg.

Working at Publix is even worse... especially when your expected to motivate people to be productive and work at a decent speed who have no motivation.

I've done both of those. Your right, they blow. But chin up something better will come along eventually. I've had over a dozen crappy jobs before I got where I am today. I fix tanks for the army and I love my job. A lot of the people I work with complain about how much they think the job sucks but I don't mind because I know there's worse things to do out there.

Hey,
Cheshire, just to show you that every cloud or horrendous job can have a silver lining: My cousin used to wait tables all the time, but she was always really polite and did a good job (she hated it too), anyway, one day she was waiting tables and the guys she was waiting on was so impressed by how friendly she was that he offered her a really nice job working with him on the spot. Just goes to show you that even if you hate your job, good can come out of it, so hang in there!!

That happened to me too. I was offered a job working with CSX Railroad and if you didn't know Railroad job pay well and have unbeatable benefits. But, I lost the number. Crappy.

Well I have had pleatly of bad jobs before. I love my jobs now though.....well most of the time. I doubt there is ever anything known as the perfect job but I have always thought waiting tables would be one of the hardest jobs ever.

see that's the thing, I'm in school now so I can't work a lot. But I don't graduate completely for about 8 more years. I did apply for a teller position at regions bank part time. It's the same company my fiance works for. If I'm lucky I'll get the job.

Keep at it, Chesire. Leverage the classes that you have and try to find jobs that will let you use those skills in one way or another. Network - you'll find something better.

aye...never give up the job-age. I almost did when i started working at my current job, because i felt it was becoming too much. All i know is that it's never a good idea to just up and leave. It tarnishes your name, and also kills a reference. Similarly, you really can't ever walk back into the place again, or try to get your job. It's what we call in my house "Burning your bridges." You don't ever really wanna do that.

To give you examples: Two girls that work in the B+N cafe have been fired due to irresponsibilities and/or just not showing up. One of them would just come up with bad excuses, and claimed that she could find a better job: Unfortunately, waht she doesn't realize is that Barnes and Nobles is a fairly nice name to have in any job-experience section of a resume or application. Secondly, she lost out on work experience. The other girl just never showed up. One day, my cousin (Who worked with us) got a message from her saying that she had a family emergency. He told her to call the management.

She never did.

Three days of work were missed and she never called.

She was terminated...once again, no experience, and a big X on the reference list.

My suggestion: keep at it. I've kept at my job, and they look at me like a friggen cafe God. I show up, and the people just seem to part to my existance...ok, so im a little off my rocker too; They know they can rely on me, and if anything happens to me, they know that they can cover for me, because of the work i've put in. Also, if i ever left my job, they have a whole WORLD of good they can say, and pretty much no bad. Secondly, if it does become too much, then you know what? Sometimes, school takes precidence. The only advice from there is don't just "not show up." Give em the two weeks' notice...it'll leave you guys off on friendly terms, in case you ever need the work at a later point in time, or if you ever need a good word in from the management on a new job.

Ok...i've said my piece...hope my ethics of the working world have helped ya chesh.

~That is all
