"Kazunori Yamauchi said the PS3 version of Gran Turismo HD will indeed feature a damage system, it is an optional plug-in that can be downloaded. You can also download stronger AI opponents, additional contents and race courses as updates become available. In future players will be able to setup their own tournaments and chat with other players in the lobby."
So you can download stronger AI? The AI in GT has always followed the best line regardless of whatever else was happening (as evidenced by the way the cars will actually bump into each other haphazardly in turns) but you're telling me "we CAN make the cars actually race realistically (intelligently) but it'll cost more"? Sure your game looks good but you are looking rather poor to me now, Mr. "I know all there is to know about cars" Yamauchi.
Stronger AI...isn't that what the "difficulty" setting is for in the Options menu?
Of course if all of this downloading is free it will be a surprise to me. |

It only says DL..Does it actually say Play anywhere?
Maybe people don't want harder AI or a Damage system so they give it to them as an option. |

That was my thought too.
Gran Turismo has a set feel right now. Seems like they are keeping that feel and giving you the option to download options that will make the game feel different. |

I meant Pay not Play. 
Also, if they do charge for it then guess what, if no one buys it they'll stop charging for it.
It's called Capitalism. If people don't buy something it tends not to embolden a company to continue doing it.
Also, where was this post when Fable or Morrowind or whatever made you pay for some kind of super-horse on the 360? |

Exactly, all of this should be in the OPTIONS menu. Can you imagine Midway releasing MK Armageddon and asking you to pay for Blood? And I did state that it didn't say you had to pay for it but I'm willing to bet my still running Atari 2600 that you'll have to pay for downloadable content, in general. Sony, especially, is not going to just give up the goods like that. With what they'll be losing on each PS3 sold they will undoubtedly (and maybe understandably) be looking to recoup ends from wherever they can. They've already announced the $60 price point as the normal game price. Ridiculous.
And before anyone gives me the "games cost more so...blah, blah" speech here's my pre-response. $60 for a game is simply too much in 90% of the cases. Comparing games to other forms of media bears this out. $15 for a CD that you can listen to over and over. $10 for book that you can read again and again. $20 for a dvd that you can watch repeatedly. $60 for a game that you may play thru one time (10-40-100 hours doesn't much matter in reality as more than 51% of people do not finish every game they buy). By my math, that's ridiculous. Now in the rare cases of a Half-Life or Blizzard game then you get mucho replay value. You practically get as much as you want, then it's different. But using the cost issue is like a kid saying he'll mow your lawn for $60 because his mom paid alot for the lawnmower. If you want to recoup your investment you can either sell alot for a low cost or a few for a high cost. The game industry has decided to go for the second option. I have decided against it. I'll happily buy a used game knowing that Sony (for example) sees no extended revenue from my purchase. Some games are indeed worth the money, I have at least one version of all of the Pokemon games and most of the Yugioh games (which are turning into something akin to roster updates now) because I feel I get replay value and overall quality from them. I also purchase the 2K games (NFL and NBA) because they too give me value at their price point but if they too were $60 then I wouldn't even bother to look at them. And the GT series has gone decidedly downhill, for me, since GT2 anyway. It gets prettier and stupider each edition until now it's just pretty stupid.
Simply charging a certain price because that's how much you can get is not something I will encourage.

Maybe they didn't want to put it in options because they made the game and then Larry said. "You know what would be cool? If we changed everything about the GT series like AI and damage"
Then everyone in the board-room replies "Dammit Larry we already made the F'ing game! Where were you 6 months ago?!"
Larry, "Well, they can DL it sine the PS3 will inevitably be on-line anyway."
Board, "GENIUS!"
Also sports games suck..get over it. |
