Last night I had the unthinkable, wtf, it really does happen like that moment.

I hit a deer...or more accurately, a deer hit me.

As some of you know, I live across from a State Park, so naturally, there will be the random deer. I've seen one cross the road once, about 3 years ago. It was an incredible sight...and then another sad moment when someone had hit one. And this time it happened to me.

Less than a mile from my house...no other car on the road and all of a sudden, I see a deer's head in my driver-side headlight...then BAM!

The deer bounces off and away and disappears and my car never misses a beat and just keeps on moving. It is the scariest thing I think I have ever experienced to where I'm still not fully calmed down from it all.

I'm ok...the deer was ok (just a little fur on my bumper and headlight)...and my car was drivable. Except for the fact that i'll prolly be in a rental car for the next 2 weeks while a minimum of $2,600 damage is repaired. Car insurance is a good thing...they cover this sort of stuff.

I am now a true believer when someone says "It came out of nowhere" because this was SO true. It all happened in an instant.

The weird thing is where the deer came from, its not like it came off from the field, or out from a neighborhood...I saw bits of my car this morning in front of a public storage facility! But as my friend said to me...deer have stuff to store too you know...LoL

Must have been its rack since this one luckily didn't have any antlers or else it could have gone a lot worse....but for the record, I was more upset over hitting a deer and hurting an animal than I was about my car. I just hope it was just stunned a sore today.

That almost sounds like the dog that came barking at me and my mom from nowhere, bounced of the side of her van, and disappeared. We never saw that dog again. o_O

Yeah, the deer do just show up like that. And they seem to have no sense of relative velocity, because they'll happily bound out in front of your car or into the side of it without realizing that it goes a lot faster than they do and has more momentum.

I've hit two deer... one just off Pleasant Hill Rd with Hoth right behind me and the other right down the road from our house in downtown Suwanee.

Never be surprised where deer come from when we down their habitats all the time. At least it wasn't a black bear like that guy hit on I85 near Sugarloaf a few years back.

I don't blame you though, my kin has a lot of trouble with large moving objects.

I've swerved to avoid many an animal, and I've stopped a few times to move a dead (or living in the case of a few turtles) animal off the road.

That must've been very scary though, I'm glad you're alright.

About this time last year some lady hit a moose on one of our local highways here in Connecticut. The strange part is...we don't have moose in Connecticut.

i usually try to avoid any animal that has the same mass as an average human and aim for rabbits and other small ones excepting the Opossoms and beavers. it is damn hard to get the smell of beaver off you (pun intended)
