So this summer, I took classes. One was a CPR course; the other was a CNA course. Both are needed to get into the nursing program at my school (called "Harvard on the Hill" by some people, but CTC isn't Harvard by any stretch of the imagination).
I paid $25 for the CPR course. I took it and did very well. Then I started the CNA course last month, which lasted 4 weeks long. I learned a lot there. So that class cost $330. Then I paid to take the state exam -- that's $76. I'll take it on the 31st.
Then I tried to sign up for pharmacology at CTC. I couldn't get in because the school had a semi-new way to register people for classes. Then I went there myself and was told the class was full.
This morning, I got a phone call from the school's nursing dept. There's a slot available for pharmacology; would I be interested? Heck yeah. I'm this close to getting accepted; what else is there to take? So I go to school and register.
And THEN I'm told the nursing dept. did away with the CNA requirement because some problems cropped up. -_- HOW many times has the dept. changed their minds about certain requirements in the past year? HOW many people this past school year said that you HAD to have your CNA license to be accepted into the program? HOW many people said you needed WORK EXPERIENCE, too? Does ANYONE know what they're doing over there?!
*calms down*
And they won't accept my CPR card. They want the health care kind, not the regular kind.
So I kinda feel like everything I did this summer was a waste. Waste of time, waste of effort, waste of MONEY. The money is what bugs me the most, because that wasn't MY money. That was my parents'.
And speaking of money, my sister STILL hasn't paid me for baby-sitting her sons. I baby-sit them every day for several hours--sometimes even at 6:00 a.m. Even on the weekends, when she and her husband are OFF FROM WORK. They don't even say "Thank you". I don't get paid much, either; only $15-20 a month. And my parents or I have to remind her to pay me, because sometimes she won't fork over the money. I don't do this for free, you know. It takes a lot of time and effort to take care of a 5-month-old and a 3-year-old.
Ok, that's all. |

-hugs-
First off, the summer wasn't a waste because a) you learned a lot b) in the work force they will check every reference possible and having those courses will help. Granted using all of that money just to get delayed blows.
As for your sister, I'd personally stop being so nice and not work until she pays you. |

I'm totally with Azurel on both points. It wasn't a waste, because you learned alot. It'll also help future classes a breeze. Sister needs to realize that you need cash.

hey...lots of experience that you have there. The money wasnt a waste, thats for sure...but the school needs to learn to grow some brains.
As for the sister thingy...its your sister. From the standpoint of being a younger sibling, thank you's arent necessity all the time. My bro tells me thank you SOMETIMES...but aside from that, he'll just go: "Ok...now do this." If your sister forgets, just keep on reminding her...but by all means, dont get pissed at them for no thank yous...your the little one...your always thanked, even if not right up to your face. But as for the money...just keep buggin them.
And as for the weekend thingy...they are off from work to have a break and relax, get away from the work environment and such, and sometimes they want to go out with their favorite person and just spend a night with them alone, just to cool down from a long day at work. Its not nice to baby sitters...or people like me who work giving these llittle grubbers their coffee...but they do work the whole week for their family doing 9-5 jobs.
Now...if she does a completely slacker job...then i stand corrected...and the filthy biotch (pardon my french) needs to spend more time at home with her family. Thats another thing...if she does this every weekend to you, then you have every right to tell her to go shove it where the sun dont shine
Ok...im done now

lol, "Harverd on the Hill" is aterm we also use to describe our local college. I share your anger in colleges not know what the hell they want, though. Thats not the first time I've heard of peopel taking classes, prerequistes, or independant study that wasn't nessessary. It seems to me like colleges have their collective head up their ass. *hugness* Why aint you not even got a PO, Starlit? J00 been around fo eva n' stuff. |

Yeah...it *is* a learning experience. I just gotta keep remembering that.
Tobias: It's every weekend. Every day, actually. Granted, they *do* need "alone time", and I understand that...and they *do* take care of their kids at times. But we (my parents and I) usually end up doing all the work. Don't get me wrong, we love their kids to pieces...it's just that we need a break, too. And you're right about the "thank you" thing -- guess I shouldn't be so riled up about it.
Azurel - I can't exactly not baby-sit them -- there are times when I'm the only one who can do it. Everyone else is working, or sleeping, or out somewhere so the baby (my youngest nephew) can sleep (my eldest nephew is usually pretty loud).
Terin - Thanks for your comment. I'll see what I can do about the money.
Daijaga - I don't have a PO, but I want one. I'll probably get one eventually. |

yea, I know what you mean, I used to do pretty much the same thing when I was younger. But she wasn't my sister and I did it for free so I could have said no anytime. |

Reading this has made me realize that I may not appriciate my little siblings as much as I should show them that I do!!! I feel bad now.....note to self: appriciate others, especially family more often.
Anyways, I think it's really nice of you to be watching your sister's kids. BUt she should definitely fork over the money.
As for college....They usually always find a way to screw you over in the 4 years you attend it. It's happened to me, but you find away to get through it realizing that you'll get something out of it...Wether it's a very very very expensive piece of paper, diploma, or knowledge, but that's all up to you. |
