Ugh, man. I can go on and on and on about "goths"; mostly kids that want to be goth...yet don't even understand life enough to be "hating life" at age 12. Some of us have gone through some deep shit- I haven't, yet, experienced anything really big or anything, and I would never want to. There are 12 year olds runnin around wearing black and listening to Marilyn Manson writing "sad"(as in pathetic) poetry and spending too much time looking at a negative side of life that doesn't exist.
When I was 12, I was playing the Sega Genesis or the SNES and giggling over Power Rangers Zeo. I like "goth" as an "idea". It makes for interesting looking characters and come on...Batman(yeah yeah, not GOTH, but he has the elements) is pretty bad ass.

Anywho. This goes along the same line as people who think that "goths" that purchase their clothes at Hot Topic are "fake". There needs to be a serious "goth" pre-requisite or something. You have to have lost half your family(bonus "goth" points if they're all killed in a church!), every and any pet you've ever owned- except a pet that's colored black(preferably a cat, crow, raven, or in some cases, dogs- bonus points if it's evil to anyone BUT you and has killed at least 5-10 brightly colored((white)) animals), and you have to have been born with a weird "goth" name- extra goth points for having the names Sebastian(or any of it's alt. spellings), Malice, Alice, Honey, Death(or death in any language), etc.
I dunno. That's all just me bullshittin' by-the-by.

Seriously. I dunno. The whole "goth" thing has it's attractive elements, but seriously, most of it's the clothes. I can be a pessimistic person, but I have ALWAYS being "sad", "angry", or "depressed"; and I get my bursts of excitement from walking down the toy-aisles and looking at Transformers.

...so yeah. Man. "Goth"s can be major hypocrites...and most of their clothing and shit are all trends from other "goths". I swear. Young punks and older punks that think life is just a bunch of shit when most of them are gettin free room and board from their folks.
Oh well. I will leave with some poetry.

Hell, I think that you could make a whole series of shirts like this. Like:

You're not punk by ripping holes in your jeans and wearing shirts with band names on them. Then you're just an idiot with ripped pants and an over-priced shirt.

Or maybe you could make one that cuts directly to the issue at hand:

Rebellion for no reason ain't cool- it's pointless. So cut your mohawk, wash off that eyeliner and stop whinning.... bitch.

Sakura dresses in the style but she is one of the most cheery people you will meet. She also dresses in Punk fashion as well. She's all over the board. I love her ability to pull off whatever it is she wants to wear.

My dear younger sister likes the style, although she doesn't go for all-black, eyeliner-and-all. I hung out with quite a few people in high school that liked and wore that style. Some of them were exceedingly intelligent, well-reasoned and cool people to be around.

I feel that "goth" is not "angst", and people are confusing the two quite easily. Besides, if you're in the mood for it, why not dress that way?

Worry not about those who get into it because it's a fad. They will fall out of it as soon as the fad passes, and they will leave those who like it to their own devices. It can be annoying, but like all things, it will pass.

I say wear what you want, and feel confident and comfortable in it (most of the time). If you can't then you're just being a poser, more to yourself then anything. When I was young I dressed in the traditional grunge way, but as i grew older I found a new style I was comfortable with and stuck with that. It's all about growing and have your style grow with you.
