Hey I was wondering what any of the other Silent Hill fans here (if there are any) think of 4. I'm only about half-way through it but it doesn't seem to be as scary as the past three, though the story is still pretty good. |

I'm currently playing Silent Hill 4 as well. And much like you, I'm about halfway into it. I just finished "Apartment World" and, like you said, I really don't think it's as scary as the other 3.
I like the whole isolated hub idea they implemented, and that you use your some what voyuer-esque methods to see what's going on in the world. But the areas are a little too wide for me. (With the exception of the rooms in Apartment World and the Hospital)
The story is really what's holding me to it. Espeically since it links to you know what. |

My biggest complaint though is theres no fog, or your trusty pocket flash and radio. |

I know! What's up with that? Those charge up attacks do come in handy though. Sometimes I can catch those dog/tiger thingies in a full blow with the baseball bat. Speaking of which have you ever try to hit those flying things full force? Hi-larious.
I kind of don't like the super (despite the dynasty he's apart of ^_^), on the count of him being such a freak. I bet he gets killed eventually. |

The more I read about the story, the weirder and funner that game sounds. Locked in a room with only a red spray paint warning that reads "don't leave the room - WIlliam". *shudder* You muthas might not think its scary, but I bet Id crap a brick.
Hey, wtf are those freaky Eye ball things I kept seeing in picutres? |

I like the game. Nice new direction. And the creepiness factor is great. Though I will agree, not all that scary. Plus not to mention the whole theories and such of Silent Hill makes the series incredible. |

I will give you that the creepniess factor is very high in this one. I don't even breathe when I finish a world and wake up. I'm just waiting for wall dividing the real world and the nightmare world to crumble down and have his apartment room filled with crazy monsters.

Hellz yeah they are. Silent Hill employes a few concepts to make it such an awsome series.
One concept is to have things that are not only visually scary, but also psychologically scary occur in the game.
Another one is to weave that unique brand of horror together with a very deep storyline.
Also, they use badass ambient(for the most part) music to fit all the games perfectly.
In fact, the storyline is so deep that it has sparked many debates of not only what the main plot is of the game(and series), but what the significance of what some very minor things that most people don't even think about. (Such as James willingly jumping down into so many holes in Silent Hill 2).
I think you should give them a try(Pretty high order coming from a newbie, eh?). Especially since all of them, except 4, can be bought with no more than $20. If you do decide to buy them, it's best to play them by chronological order. If not, you'll be highly disappointed in how much sense Silent Hill 3 doesn't make if it's the first one you play.
So yeah, there ya go. |
