ok... 16 teraflops. Most of you may not know what that means.
A "flop" is a "floating point operation." Decimal arithmetic.
Think of it this way...
16,000,000,000,000 calculations per second.
That's 16 TRILLION! IN ONE SECOND! Holy Crap!
for reference...
PS2 CPU apparently does 6 Gigaflops
GC CPU does 13 Gigaflops
Xbox graphics processor supposedly does 140 Gigaflops
If anyone knows how many flops a P3 733 pushes (CPU of the xbox) please post it. |

What they're talking about is sheeer brute processing force. The new cell is apparently able to process about one thousand times more complex instructions (like floating point demical manipulations) in a second than a pretty good processor like the ones in most gaming machines.
That's why they're dancing. Those hair-trigger reflexes can now splatter blood with even more accuracy. |

I highly doubt that my friend.
Zane, the "Cell Processor" is a new chip that was being worked on by IBM, Toshiba and Sony. It is the most advanced CPU ever. and it is going to be the heart of the PS3. |

They let us test the hard drives so testing hardware isn't too crazy. But yer prolly right. |
