YAY THE FURRY BOARD IS BACK UP WOOHOO!!!!!Ok, so here's the deal! I am a furry. To be more precise, I am a lynx (made blatantly obvious by my PO character) So I thought it would be fun to have a furry board! So, HERE IT IS! YAY!!!!! needless to say, everyone is welcome, but it is a plus if you are FURRY! Interesting Furry websites are also appreciated! Have fun and enjoy!

Boo... if you want to post a topic like this in the Village Square, you can make one where your Characters can go within Miniopia.
That can be one of the places that you role play with your character.
Maybe like call it the "Furries Fun House" or something.
There are others on the site so they may just join in.

You'll excuse a question, then, since I'll try to drag people and their responses into things and make the topic live.
For those who are furry, is it believing yourself a member of your animal's species in human form or something else that makes you identify strongly with your chosen animal? |

It's a combination of a lot of stuff, usually, at least for the more hardcore furries(such as, for an example, myself). It's partly spiritual, partly mental(and I do of course mean "crazy" when I say mental, in my case. I'll explain later when I have more time), and partly it's just something for me to do when I'm bored. Example: I typically have concious dreams of being an animal, I share numerous mental traits with the animals I use as my representations(namely, libido, cleverness, hyperactivity, and a tendency to get easily spooked), and I often hang out with various furry friends when I've got nothing to do.
I personally have been a furry for as long as I can remember, even before I knew what one was, before I'd ever even heard of the fandom. But that's a story for a different thread. |

Awright then, but I warned ya. My story is rather off-the-wall as compared to some others, but keep in mind I'm an extreme case here. My reasons aren't the reasons of most furs; I'm only speaking for myself here.
For as long as I am capable of remembering, I have had a psychosomatic mental condition which causes me to percieve the presence of animal features, regardless of actual physical reality. Think of it as kind of like phantom limb syndrome, except I never had the limbs to start with. I can't see them, but I can feel them; more than once I've adjusted my chair because it was hurting my tail, and only much later realized that I don't have one. I am, however, able to see these characteristics while deep in meditation or under the effects of certain mind-altering or hallucinogenic drugs. I'd go into the specific details, but time limits force me to be quick about this description. I don't know what causes these: presumably a chemical imbalance in the brain, perhaps some repressed psychological reason. Frankly, I don't much care; I'm used to it. It's harmless, and barring a few awkward social situations where people ask me why I keep adjusting my pants it doesn't affect my normal life much. Also, I frequently dream conciously(that is, having dreams in which you are capable of controlling your actions in the dream) of being the animals from which my(for lack of a better term) delusions derive characteristics from. Namely, a fox and a rabbit, as you can see in my PO.
Now, knowing this about me, you can probably tell that before I ever even heard the phrase "furry" I was one. It's part and parcel of who I am; it's the only standard of normal by which I'm able to judge, since it's the only perspective I've ever had. It's a very deep, very important part of who I am.
Now, again, this is hardly endemic to all furs. Again, I am an extreme case. Many simply enjoy doing it for roleplaying purposes. For some, it's got a sexual aspect; I know it does for me. After all, if you percieve yourself as a humanoid animal, your standard of beauty is going to be somewhat different from the norm. Some enjoy it for the art, others for the social aspect: furs tend to get along with one another. The fandom has relatively little internal drama, and when it does it's usually contained to a personal level, unlike the Holy Wars you get when other fandoms split(the closest we got to that was the schism between the Burned Furs and Freezing Furs, but that's a long-ass story that I don't want to get into).
I don't have much of a finish for this. I'll try and write some more later on, when I have a more reliable connection to the intarweb. |

I identify with too many animals, hence Kiyomi's various animal parts. I identify a lot with anything that flies. I have always wanted to fly. I used to have dreams of flying that were so vivid that I would wake up and be shaky on my feet. I used to believe I really could fly because the dreams were so real I thought they really happened. I also could swear sometimes I have wings on my shoulders. Sometimes I really feel like I could just spread my wings and take off into the sky. Its probably due to something else in my past that I know about, but don't really want to mention to the public (It's a good thing, but I doubt many would believe me).
Anyway, I also identify with predatory animals, especially cats, wolves, and dragons...plus predatory birds, of course (being that they fly and are predatory). I often find myself having very cat-like movements, moments, etc. I even sleep like a cat or a rabbit. I can cat-nap, but I have a really hard time staying asleep for more than a couple hours, even at night.
I have always connected with rabbits...since the day I first got rabbits. I can read their body language very easily, I know a lot about their various systems (digestive, muscular, etc.), and I know more about their diseases than most licensed veterinarians (don't believe me, I can get you in contact with the local vet LOL). I am obsessed with their genetics, and I could ramble off every coat colour and coat type genetic combination known to man when it comes to rabbits. I have honestly had times where I felt that something was wrong with my rabbits, as I have a very close bond with them. The barn used to be about a half acre away from the house, which is too far away to hear anything. I would wake bolt upright, toss on some clothes, and dash out to the barn because I felt something was wrong. It has helped save some of my rabbits in the past. One time a dog was in the barn attacking the rabbits. Other times females were having difficult births, or a rabbit had gotten hurt somehow, and if I had not gotten there when I did they could have died.
Aside from connecting with a few animals I tend to have a distinct empathy toward animals in general. Animals tend to gravitate toward me. Cats and rabbits especially love me. I haven't met a rabbit yet that I could not win over given time, even when other "rabbit experts" had given up. Cats just like me. I even am a fair hand with feral cats who grew up without any human contact. Just ask Excel. LOL. He has to work twice as hard to get the cats to really like him as I do. I pick up on animal body language really easily, which helps a lot.
I would far rather be around animals than most people, though I do definitely get along well with serious furries (not really with people just role-playing since they tend to be rather juvenile from my experience) or have a similar affiliation with animals. I mean, a lot of people LIKE animals, but are not really so closely affiliated with them. |
