...what did everyone think? I just got back from seeing it in IMAX with UP, and honestly...I think I liked this one better. It's definitely much darker and creepier, and although I've never read the actual book, I'm willing to bet that this vesion is much closer to it. And if you thought Willy Wonka was creepy and weird in the original movie...wait until you see Johnny Depp as Wonka.

The only other thing I have to say about the movie for now is, "Doooooku!"

I liked it....
But I still like the original more.
Even if this is more faithful to the book.

I just really like Johnny Depp, and I love Tim Burton's style of movies. I need to get a pair of those glasses that Willy was wearing!

Okay.. So I went and saw this movie SAT night.. and I must say.. Its probably the worse movie I have ever seen. It wasn't anywhere as enjoyable as the original and Jonny Depp or (Michael Jackson Twin) acted like an insane serial killer through the entire flick. They also added a lot of aftermath stuff that I feel ruined the story. I mean It was nice to know where Willy Wonka was comming from but dang...I want a story about the chocolate factory and that fat kid getting sucked up the tube.

Also the guy they "cloned" as the umpa loompas reminds me of what "Cheech's" Kid would look like when he was 40. And the music for the umpa loompas was a little "poppy" for my taste.

Aye me. well I went into this completely not relating it to the first. Or trying my darndest to do it.

You know what? I loved it! Loved it loved it loved it. I think it was great they gave us a back story to Willy. And yes Ming, DOOOOOKUUU!

It was a known fact that Raold Dahl didn't like the first movie. So it would have been real curious to hear what he thought of this one, alas.

I only had two complaints but since talking with Gaaz it's down to one and not really all too much of one.

1) The parents didn't seem TOO upset about their children as they headed to their "fates". - According to Gaaz, the book was much like this. I need to re-read it.

2) I wasn't fond of 2 of the Oompa Loompa songs

All in all though, it was fast paced, the children in my audience sighed when Charlie didn't get his ticket on his birthday or the one Grampa Joe gave him in secret but they all cheered and clapped and gasped when he peeled back the label to find the 5th golden ticket.

Grampa George is GREAT!

Johnny Depp did a really great job I feel. He didn't play Gene Wilder playing Willy Wonka. THAT was the best part about it.

I love the original. I LOVE Gene Wilder and I think Willy Wonka was one of his best performances (that and the fox in The Little Prince). So I think Johnny Depp did a great justice to Gene by not imitating him.

Veruca was bang on. The girl looks like the girl from the first Willy. Augustus made me and Gaaz laugh. Violet looked like an alien. ~creepy kid shiver~ Mike TV was a great cast. And I can't help but adore the boy who played Charlie. (He was Peter in Finding Neverland - makes me cry everytime).

Anyway, I need to read the book again and compare. I think tim Burton did an excellent job. The movie flowed well. It was great to see the coming of the relationship between Willy and the Oompa Loompas and I think it was awesome to see Willy's childhood.

I give it an A!

I'm with Doot on this one. My only issue was the Oompa Loompa songs.

However, Violet didn't look like an alien to me... her mother did.

And it took me half the movie to figure it out, but the chick that played Violet's mother was the alien chick from Galaxy Quest.

My most favorite part of the movie though was the ATL people and the kid with all the trophies on the wall and then the parent who was like.. "I won a number of trophies in my day. All of them were in the Baton though".. And points to the batons on the wall.. I almost fell out of my chair laughing.
