Can't tattoos keep you out of giving for a year. And since I'm getting another one soon...can't give. But it never made me sick or nervous. |

I'm in the same boat. I'd love to donate and help people, but I weigh 103, and the minimum requirement is 110.

Yep. One year. In the case that you might have gone to a dirty place and contracted hepatitis (or some other bloodborne pathogen), which won't show up in a screening for a while. |

Anyone else here give blood regularly?
~that is all |
I draw it regularly. Pretty damn good at it too. Horray for phlebotamy!
EDIT: And to stay on topic. No, no I can't. And it's not like I don't want to. It's just that I lived in Germany for 7 years. They disallow you from giving blood at that point. Something about Mad Cow or some such. Wouldn't moo about what they're mooing. Pure moo.

well, the fact of the matter for me is that im afraid of after the blood taking, or that the phlebotamist will make a mistake, and screw over my arm, as well as get blood everywhere. I'm not one to have a problem at the site of blood...just that when it comes to my blood, i want it to be HANDLED correctly. That, and I really do dislike the effects afterwards. If it weren't for the fact that I almost passed out the first time (And by almost, i really do mean that...i almost fell out of my chair, and had to lay on a stretcher for a good hour and a half) I would probably be much more comfortable. It's just that afterwards, i don't wanna "spring a leak" or something. Dumb stuff like that.
Yes, and now, i look at my arm, and it is thoroughly bruised. While it is expected, out of all 4 times ive given, this is the first time i've bruised. Could also be that the phlebotamist didn't have my arm positioned right, and it was over-extended on the stretcher
Anywho, That is all |

I've given once.
I didn't pass out or anything, but I wasn't looking either. I felt a little light headed at the end. After a pint of blood is lost, I think your body begins to figure out what's going on and the conservation instinct goes in for some people.
I have a weak stomach when it comes to that stuff. I WILL pass out if I watch them take blood from my body. Doesn't matter how much. If I watch, I'm screwed. |

Weight I can't do anything about to fix. Iron on the other hand - my sisters often have low iron, and they take supplements for the time leading up to the donation, and then they have enough iron to make it work.
Tobs, Shino, I'm with you guys on the nervousness about things going wrong - I don't actually watch the needle nor look at the site - I'm usually too busy yakking it up with the nurses or the other people on the cots for the time, trying to keep both my mind and everyone else's off the process if they want to. So if you want to try and overcome that nervousness bit, you can probably just by talking or listening to the music or just concentrating elsewhere.
I haven't done any passing out or anything like that, but I've seen it happen, too. |

Hehe. Once they were doing a blood drive at my school, and everybody was all cheering 'cause the biggest and "baddest" football player at the school stepped up to give blood, and they pricked his finger for the blood test and he passed out ! |

Give plasma. YOU GET MONEY.
