The website says April.
They also say that the Penny Arcade stuff should be out this month! And considering that this is the last day of this month...
I asked about that in my email so we will see. |

I got my demo decks in the mail yesterday. I haven't gotten to play it with anyone yet, but the rules are kind of confusing. I think it's because they try to introduce new terms that I'm just not used to.
And Shino the PA set is already available at the PA store. Actually I think that's the only way you can get it.

30 bucks for 120 cards and 2 boxes... that's actually not to bad... I may jump on that.
If you have any questions about rules and stuff let me know... I think I got most of it figured out. I will post the questions I asked to sabertooth and the answers to those questions as soon as they email me back. |

Here are some scans of a few of the Penny Arcade cards that were in a gaming magazine that I read. I'm not sure what exactly they do, but they look pretty darn funny!

Well here's some basic info on the cards.
The first card is an asset card. This is a card that you can keep out turn after turn. This also goes for Foundation cards. There is not a foundation card in this picture.
The numbers on the card... the number in the top left is the Difficulty to play that card. The number on the bottom Right is the control check number. All of the cards have these 2 numbers. When you play a card, you put it into your card pool. You have to then flip a card from your "library" to your discard pile. If the control check number of the card you discarded is >= the difficulty of the card you played, then it is played successfully.
The Asset and Foundation cards can be used through out the game. After you successfully play one of these cards, and after your turn is over, you move these cards from your card pool to your "staging area." From here, you can use those cards' abilities... or you can use them to lower the difficulty to play a card.
For example, if I have a Fruit Fer in my staging area, and I try to play another one... when I make my control check, if I pull a 3, I would normally not be able to play the card and it would get discarded at the end of my turn, but instead, I can commit (or tap) the Fruit Fer in my staging area and that would allow me to play the second Fruit Fer.
You can play more than one card each turn. If you do, the difficulty increases. The difficulty on any given card is the Difficulty labeled on the card + the number of cards already in your card pool. So if I played a Fruit Fer this turn already then tried to play a tube strike, the difficulty of playing the Tube strike would actually be 5.
The second and third cards are attack cards. You can also block with these cards. You know you can block with them b/c they have the number in the top right corner. If a card doesn't have this number, you can't block with it. There are 3 new numbers on these cards... so here goes...
I'll start with the easy one. I'm going to go up from the control check number.
Damage: The number in the little explosion is how much damage the attack does.
Attack Speed and zone: The next number up is the speed of the attack. This determines how hard it is to block this attack. On the right side you will see 3 small bubbles. The one with the 'x' in it indicates what zone this attack hits. The top is high, the middle is mid and the bottom is low.
Block Number and zone: The top right number as mentioned before is the block modifier. You see they have little '+'s infront of them. I'll get to this in a moment. Again there are 3 bubbles to the left this time. This is the block zone. Top means you can block high and mid zone attacks. Middle means you can block all zone attacks (unless otherwise mentioned on the card). Bottom means you can block mid and low attacks.
Now... how to block.
The difficulty of a block is the Speed of the attack + the block modifier + the number of cards in your card pool. You make a control check (flip the top card of the library into the discard pile) to see if your block was successfull. You can tap staging area cards to bring down the difficulty of a block too.
So...
Lets say my opponent is attacking me with Tube strike... it is his/her first attack. I try to block with Unsporting conduct.
The difficulty of the block would be the speed of Tube strike (3) + the block modifier on Unsporting conduct (2) + the number of cards in my card pool (since this is my first time blocking, it would be 0)
So the difficulty of my block is 5. I would have to control check against a 5 to see if the block was successful.
If it is successful... since it's a low block against a mid attack, I block all damage.
I CAN attempt a block of a low attack with a high block and vice versa. The difference is instead of blocking all damage if successful, I would take half damage rounded up.
The last things of note on the cards are the resource symbols.
Your character has 3 resource symbols. Every card you play in your card pool must share at least 1 symbol with your character. If you play more than one card... each card you play must share 1 symbol with your character AND each card you played before it this turn.
Yes it does seem rather complicated... but you catch on pretty quick while you're playing.
Other things to mention... At the end of each player's turn, the card pool is cleared and all staging area cards are "readied" (untapped).

Questions asked to Sabertooth...
1) If a player blocks with a reversal card, and that block is successful, can that player use that reversal somehow?
Sabertooth wrote: | The short answer is no. You may play a reversal after you have blocked. So you need to block with a card and then you can play any attack that is a reversal during your opponent’s turn. If you block with a reversal card you will need to have another attack in your hand to play as a reversal. If that card or another card you had said something like after you block with a reversal card play that attack as a reversal then yes you could. |
2) If a player successfully blocked with a non-attack zone block and was dealt 1/2 damage, can that player use a reversal?
Sabertooth wrote: | Yes, all that matters is that you blocked not the quality of that block. |
3) Can a player attempt multiple blocks against one attack?
Sabertooth wrote: | No you only get one chance to block an attack. |
4) If a player blocks with a foundation/asset and the block is unsuccessful (or successful for that matter), do that player discard it or can it go into his/her staging area?
Sabertooth wrote: | If a block is unsuccessful then the card is discarded. |
The rest of this question I found on the sabertooth boards...
Sabertooth wrote: | No - if a card is played into the card pool as a block, it is discarded when you clear the card pool regardless of its other card type. |
5) If an E: has no cost, does it go off instantly on a successful control check?
Sabertooth wrote: | You must announce that you are playing the E to get its effects. Both players go back and forth playing E’s during the enhance step until they both pass in succession and then you move on to blocking. |

Joe and I played our first game last night. It took a little bit to get used to the rules, but soon we had the hang of it. I only had a question about responses and when they get activated but I think we cleared that up.
Taki is a beast. I came from behind and laid the smackdown on Chun Li. She's got some good healing abilities which helped a heck of a lot.
I can't wait to see the other characters. Has anybody thought about becoming a tester? |
