..am I the only person who thinks this whole thing is a little extreme? I mean, I do understand being pissed off that your very expensive thing was stolen, but isn't advertising it all over the internet a little childish and selfish? I mean, he practically says that his entire mission is to make sure everybody knows what was done to him and to embarrass the bejeezus out of these people. Er. Yeah, -that's- a noble cause. I hate to say, but I really doubt that is going to get his phone back. Going to the police was a much better solution to the problem.
I also highly doubt that anyone who would be inclined to do what those people did are going to give it a second thought just because of this guy's website. Chances are the same thing wouldn't happen to them (or at least, I'm inclined to believe they would feel that way, given the human tendency to feel that nothing bad will ever happen to them) or even if they did, what difference does it make?
I don't know. I feel bad for this guy, but, c'mon. If someone had been actually -hurt-, I'd be more concerned. This is just a damn phone that he's already replaced and already contacted the police about. Stop being so materialistic. He obviously had enough money to replace it, so I don't think losing it made him homeless or anything. |

He may be going over the top a bit Shanny, but I'm with him. It's not about the money at all. I actually listened to one of the pod casts and he said that the site had raised over 1100 bucks from donations. He said he was going to donate it to charity or even buy the chick a brand new one if she gave the old one back.
It's not about the money, it's about doing what's right. And personally, I really don't blame the guy. This world has gone to shit. People don't care about other people enough anymore. I mean think of this... one of the easiest ways to be curtious... when you are driving and someone lets you infront of them... wave. I do it EVERYTIME! But you know what... I let people infront of me while driving every day... and I can't even remember the last time someone waved to me b/c of it.
He may be going through something extreme, but he's getting people's attention with it and maybe some people will wise up before doing something like this again. Chances of that, slim to none. But you can't blame the guy for wanting to try to change the world a little bit for the better.
Would I go through all of this... Maybe, maybe not. I certianly wouldn't be sacrificing work for it though. |

Lol, this song is pretty funny.
Yeah, I complelty agree. This is about someone getting what they deserve. Quiet evils like this go on all the time, and it not right, its unfair, and its wrong on every level. They just picked the wrong guy, who'd put up with everyone's crap just a hair too much. We've already seen that handling things through the police is obcenly useless, and I imagine with out the press its getting, likly would have jsut fallen through the cracks.
I had a laser pen stolen from me in high school after I let a girl see it. Apparently, she wanted to see it permanently. This sort of....ARGH! Its like the song says, this is bigger than a sidekick. Its about friggin justice.
Just my 2 babe. This guy has sacrificed a lot to get all this going and hes using the spot light in a very balanced manner I feel like. |

I would much rather see something like this if it were about an abuse, rape, or murder gone un-sung. I agree with you guys to a point, but I think that putting up all this about a stupid phone just isn't really worth it.
In the end it -is- about the money, because that's all that was taken. The only thing that was hurt was this guy's wallet, and yeah, so, he hasn't had justice for it...but, I don't see how this is helping him get it, and I don't see how this is worth it.
But, hey, everyone's entitled to their own opinions. |

Well of course they are, but again, this is about attention, not money. Ok, so it's just a Sidekick, but if it's just a Sidekick, why wouldn't they give it back?
There will never be anything like this for an abuse, rape, or murder case. Those types of crimes involve too much anger and it is unlikely one of those types of cases will go unsolved to the point of resorting to the internet. I would not want to see something like this for a more extreme case, because that's kind of sick. "I'm coming to the internet because I was raped by this man and want justice!" It's too personal and shocking. And who wants to approach someone that abused, raped, or murdered? No one wants to make that public.
The very point of this whole ordeal is to show that something so petty, so everyday, can be this huge. It's not about the Sidekick anymore, it's about how much pressure the people that stole it can take. It's not even his phone, either, that's the thing. It's his friend's. This isn't about concern.
I'm getting a vision of an old town square with a person, a petty thief, in the stocks. Humiliation by rotten tomato.

I do agree with you Shanny. But it's much harder to do this with that kind of case... in this case, the thief used the phone and the PROOF was downloaded to the owners account. So it is actually easier to turn this thing upside down about it.

Actually... after reading the whole thing... that's not necessarily true...
StolenSidekick Site wrote: | Update #42 June 13th, 12:00 p.m. eastern Ok..A lot of you have still been asking about my friend..the one who lost the phone. She has now given me permission to talk about her. The reason WHY she hasn't been available is, she is getting married this weekend. This is a once in a lifetime event for her. So you can understand why she has not been around. Now to add to the chaos surrounding her wedding plans, she had used that Sidekick to send email to the consulates in Russia where her only sister was trying to get a visa to come to the wedding (she has been denied twice for no reason). The reason she was frantic to get the Sidekick back was to view the emails and email addresses that was her correspondence with the US and Russian consulates (my friend herself is an American citizen). When she lost the Sidekick, she lost all that. Now I know that you can view the emails online, but that's only if you register with T-Mobile online for that. And you can only register it, when they send an email to your phone. That was one of the reasons why she immediately offered a reward for the phone..and why we were so upset when Sasha ignored the emails and hundreds of calls while forwarding at that same time all my friends picture's and other mails off the phone. Because of this girl's failure to return the phone, my friend's sister was DENIED a visa to come to the wedding (she was supposed to be the maid of honor). Yes, my friend did lose the phone... But I believe if anyone else had found the phone before Sasha, my friend would have gotten it back within hours. Now that her sister won't be there, the only family my friend will have in the wedding party will be her mother (her father passed a few years back).
If you want to help my friend with getting her sister to get a visa, please call and email American embassy in Yekaterinburg, Russia http://yekaterinburg.usconsulate.gov/ Email: ConsulYekat@state.gov The sister's name is: Elena Kurepina from Omsk, Russia.
I hope this does not distract from the story. I just want to show people the consequences of Sasha's actions. And why I am so upset at her. I was asked before not to talk about my friend's private day, but after hearing her cry day in and day out about this, I convinced her that her story must be told. |
So the owner's sister is going to miss being in her wedding. That's quite a loss if you don't have a lot of family at the wedding in the first place.
