But that is the trick. News is what is out of the ordinary. In our society, violence is most eye catching thing.

Also, you have to be reading and listening to the same news as everyone else. Local papers don't always have world coverage.

Also, I like Right Winged media as it is smaller and more apt to dig for things.

Also, everyone spins things different. News is not just news. It is information colored to a specific end. Be careful what you buy into, and read many different articles on the same subject from different writers to get a better view of things.

I work in the wireless industry and although I get excited at all the new and cool things a cell phone can do now, its kinda scary at the same time.

Technology is a great and dangerous thing.

If I want the news, I'll watch it on TV, listen to the radio, read it online, and/or read it in a newspaper...or all of the above.

no seriously! they do!
and that makes me VERY sad. i am a talk radio junkie so i get updates every half hour and occasionally check my phone for updates. the main thing we sacrifice for this all is the ability to be passivly ignorant though many some how are still able to do that

Now that I think about it, Im surprised at how much of my daily news I get from talk radio. Ive found that I get more enjoyment from listening ot conversations and talk than music during long drive, keeps my mind more occupied really, so I dont zone out.

That said, I think it up to the individual to decide how much of the news they want to know. While I know basically whats going on the world, I cant know everything. There comes a point I think where I think you stop experiencing the news and you start letting it become you. In this information age, its easy to get enarmored in the flow and accessability of information. At some stage, if you know a lot of news, but your not applying it to your real life or taking it into account in your personal activities, its wasted news.

um one word....Context...you removed it
this is also another problem with much media. they take comments and manipulate the length and timing to make a point

One word...clarity. Your post seems to lack it. At least in my mind.

Ok...we sacrifice the ability to be passively ignorant...but for what though? Generally, you sacrifice something to get something else, but you're not clear on what you're getting out of this. And many are somehow still able to do what?

Sorry. I'm just trying to make sense out of what you said.

I'll read any news that doesn't have an AP byline, pretty much, these days. Mostly online, because at least I can fact-check with no more effort than casting Wingardiem Leviosa (swish and flick).
