Happens with racing games too, Test Drive Unlimited can be picked up for £18 pre-owned, with a trade in value of £10....... for a 360 game!

Well, I'm sorry if I'm extra defensive about the sports games, because they are indeed (most of them) done at the studio where my boyfriend happens to work. And while I can't say anything, due to confidentiality stuff, I can say first hand, I see him exhausted and stressed out on a daily basis, all to do his part in helping put out consistently good titles. Since May, he has been going in at 10 AM, and I'm lucky if I get to see him by 11 PM or 12 AM, sometimes he works later. He does this for 5-6 days a week, which have now been kicked up to 7 days a week because its getting close to being finalized. I think if anyone saw the state he comes home in on a daily basis, and knowing you can really do nothing to help, would maybe have a tad bit of sympathy. (and Im not "mad", I'm upset, but not angry at anyone, just maybe want to slap ya a little =P lol jk, plus I know Shino has talked with my bf about this before, so I'm less upset at him lol)

Don't misunderstand me. You have every right to your opinions on the GAMES...but do not assume that things arent changing enough per game or whatnot, because people are lazy and whatnot. Sure there may be some slackers here and there, what job DOESNT have that, but do not lump all of EA into the few people who are not pulling thier weight. And seriously, its a sports game, only so much can be changed, plus I'm sure there are certain guidelines in place by the NFL to make sure that hte product that comes out is consistant.

Also, its not just EA games that trade in for crap by the next year, its ALL sports games that are reoccuring. You have to understand that by the time a new year is coming out, everyone and thier brother tries to trade in thier last year for the new year. I know when I ran my store, at one point we got in about 50 copies of Madden in a week when the newer one was due out by the next month. But the same thing had happened to MLB games and other sports titles that were carried (maybe not 50 copies, more like 20 copies, but only due tot he fact that the games sell different amounts.)

Scisci... my issue with EA sports has only to do with how they have dealt with competition. Eliminate it. Buying up all of the football licenses and stuff like that. It destroys competition. 2K games started making sports games for $20 and they were GOOD.

One of the reasons I'm looking forward to seeing this new game.

I mean either way, I don't buy sports games, but it's nice to see competition coming around again.

As far as trades... Yeah... all sports games trade for crap.
If anything... EA games hold their value the best compared to the other sports games.

Its not to say other companies wouldnt do it if they had hte money, EA just happened ot have the money to get exclusive rights. NFL didnt have to accept thier offer...why isnt anyone bitching at the NFL for "selling out" instead of putting ALL the blame on EA?

There's always more than just 1 side to the story

And I can see where you are coming from Shino, but there others to point blame at too, not just EA for the deal.

Actually I only think Madden sucks. I really like FNRd:3 the burnout games are ok (not dev. by EA, simply acquired) I simply think that the Madden games suck in every aspect except their NFL license. They IMO have hardly any creativity, no halftime of any kind they totally waste their ESPN license. I totally agree that sports games are incrementle, but as 2K showed with 2K5 they dont have to be. Pre-2K5 Madden was the superior video football experience, but in the same amount of dev. time as EA has for Madden they completely overhauled everything and blew Madden out of the water & I still believe that 2K5 is a superior game in every way to Madden. EA imo freaked when they saw the quality of that game which is why we are in the sad situation that we are in now. I'm sorry they make him work alot on a crappy game, but thats EA's fault. Its also their fault for releasing Madden 07 (360) which they supposedly took 2 years to 're-develop' and it still sucked, and I'm being kind. They took about 3 years worth of steps backwards with that. The only good thing I can say about that one is that Madden doesnt do the color commentary. I'm sorry if Ryo worked on that one, but I'm sure not as sorry as he was.

Oh trust me, I don't pin it all on EA.
I was a little upset at how the NFL just let it happen. But then again, the powers that be at the NFL probably don't pay much attention to the video game industry. Wink

In the end though... I couldn't blame the AFL.
They would do anything to get their name out there.

I would give the NFL more credit, they are fairly strict with thier license and what can, and will, be done with it.

Gekko...Dont you think that if Madden suddenly decided that it wasnt coming out next year, there would be come huge outcry from regular Madden players? They have been doing this series for so long, and still selling so well, why wouldnt they do it? Sales show that people still like it, therefore why stop a good thing?

You dislike it so much, yet you buy it still, ignoring that its preowned, you still bought it. Why? If games dont have to come out every year to appease people, why not just stick to playing your 2K5 or whatever older games that you deem better. Maybe you play them more than your Madden purchase, but why bother spending your money at all on a title that you obviously dispise?

That last point is what I was getting at, Sciler. Not only do games lose alot of their trade value when a sequel nears but sports games lose even more due to the fact that they are merely roster updates. I wasn't bashing EA (this time), just warning about trading in sports games. I usually just pitch mine although I have kept and still play my 2K series stuff all the way back to the Dreamcast versions (when I get to go back to NY, which is rarer and rarer now).

Coincidentally I played Madden 2000 for over 5 years and got into my 20 season in Franchise mode. That was the last good Madden IMO. None of the others have gotten past 2 months with me.

[begin EA bashing]

Now EA franchise-wise I can't support them. Burnout is awesome but they bought that...um...er...that's it for me. Oh, Tiger Woods face creator is pretty good too. Their best game for me is Pogo Island. I can't even begin to count how much I play that one at work on my breaks and sometimes lunch. Oh what's that? They bought Pogo also? Damn... Take me back to the Lords Of Conquest/Adventure Construction Set/M.U.L.E. days and I'll big up EA all the way. But today...can't do it.

[end EA bashing]

I bought it because its the only way I can play with some friends on Live since EA or M$ wont make 2K5 backwards compatible on 360. I do still play 2K5, on PS2, and to say that ppl buying it makes it good is like saying Britney Spears is a bigger talent than the Beatles, shes sold more albums. But thats not the case with her music or Madden I would say they are roughly equal on talent.

I didnt say that sales = good...I said that sales incenuates that its good, because if something is not, it would not be sold. And while I think Brittny lacks majorly in talent, unfortunately a lot of teen girls and boys thought she had talent...probably the same people crying because Paris is in jail lol =P

Your opinion is fine and dandy, I will jsut stay out of the EA bashing threads from now on, for my own good. I just know how hard first hand, people work ont hese games, and to see them get trashed, well it breaks my heart. Call me a loyal girlfriend =P
