What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)
My Results:
Midland
("Midland" is not necessarily the same thing as "Midwest") The default, lowest-common-denominator American accent that newscasters try to imitate. Since it's a neutral accent, just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from the Midland.
this fits...i try to generalize my accent since so many others around me, non-natives, have thick accents. figured i would make it easier in at least one way. |

You're not Northern, Southern, or Western, you're just plain -American-. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don't really have a local identity. Sure you support some local sports teams but you'd forget all about them if you had to move. You probably live in a town where the majority of people vote Republican and have American flags attached to their houses. (I didn't say YOU are like that, but that the majority of people in your town are.) |

You're not Northern, Southern, or Western, you're just plain -American-. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don't really have a local identity. You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be. Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up.
I've lived in Georgia most of my life and was born there, yet people are always telling me that "I don't sound like I'm from the South." (I take that as either an insult or a compliment, depending.) My theory is that I was an only child whose parents were away a lot, leaving me to watch TV during my formative years... I think that's why my accent is kind of non-existent. |

Western
Western is kind of neutral, but not quite since it's still possible to tell where you're from. So you might not actually be from the West (but you probably are). If you really want to sound "neutral," learn how to say "stock" and "stalk" differently. |

Oddly enough I sound like where I lived.
Wait, I do say "Stalk" and "Stock" differently. >_> |

Yeah, people generally can't tell where I'm from by an accent, though there is also the point of me picking up accents from everyone I meet. |
