Yup for once it seems its not too bad a price.
I've not got the cash though and am waiting for more on it to actually come out that I personally want (not saying there isn't games on it, just nothing I want out now) |

Not really no, I still play my PS1 games on my old PlayStation and my I'd keep my PS2 hooked up to play it. I just dont feel right playing games from a previous generation on newer hardware. |

I've heard that a lot.
At first for me it was a real estate issue. I could only have so many systems hooked up through my good selector.
Then it became even more of an issue when they added the upscaling on the games.
But the upscaling really doesn't make that much of a difference.
I know a lot of people that think like you do. One of the things they state is ... why are they going to create wear on their $4-5-600 machine when it will run on the $100 machine.
It's a good point I think.
With or without BC, I think a $400/£300 unit will sell well. |

That is kinda cool. People won't really care about the USBs. I mean, what do you need them for other than recharging your controllers? As for the Memory Card readers, I still don't know where the one on mine is, so if I would loose that feature, I wouldn't even notice. (Plus almost all my PS2 games are buckups, so I can't really use them... yet... ) |

Not to mention you can plug in a USB Hub and/or a memory card reader anyway and it will work. Flexibility is a wonderful thing.
The USB ports will be needed in the future. The PSEye comes out this month. Chances are we will have other stuff coming as well. |

I think this particular SKU is aimed at the more those gamers that really aren't bothered about lots and lots of the latest technology, I'm not a technofreak, I just want my console to play games, thats what its supposed to be for so this particular package would suit me fine. |

I don't know if I'll be able to buy it. There's a bunch of games coming out the same week that I want and I can't buy them all.
The Naruto game for 360, which was announced for release on the 16th is now held back until the 30th. Also Guitar Hero 3, Eye of Judgement and The Simpsons Game, are all coming out the same week.
I see myself buying GH3 and Naruto, just because I can't wait for Rock Band and GH3 will hold me until then. Plus I've been playing GH2 a lot lately. Specially after finding Dethklok in the extra songs! |

Yeah this is a rough month. I have Folklore which hit today.
Then R&C and Eye of Judgment. As well as Stranglehold and Orange Box!
I think the last too are going to get skipped for now. Eye of Judgment is already bought. Folklore will be picked up today... so that leaves R&C.
The game that finally made Pixar quality to a game.
I feel your pain Aiman... I feel your pain.
On topic. It looks like there is a soft date for said PS3...
Nov 2.

Source: Showbiz trade The Hollywood Reporter.
What we heard: After weeks of rumors, leaks, and nondenials of its nonexistence, the 40GB PlayStation 3 officially unveiled last week. However, while reports about the new stripped-down console had come from all over the globe--including US and Australian retailers--Sony has confirmed its release only in Europe and the UK.
Now, though, it appears US and Canadian gamers may be able to finally mark their calendars. Today, the Hollywood Reporter, one of the most widely read and influential entertainment-focused dailies on the planet, is reporting the 40GB will arrive on North American shores in less than a month. The Reporter quotes an "industry source" as saying, "We're hearing November 2" and confirmed the date with a "buyer for a major game retailer."
Unsurprisingly, the Reporter also says the console will have the same stripped-down form factor as the European 40GB PS3, with just two USB ports, no memory card readers, and the still-baffling lack of software-based backward compatibility. However, as rumored, the console will be $399, $200 cheaper than the $599 80GB PS3 Sony currently manufactures for the NA market. (The 60GB model has been discontinued, though some units are still lingering on retailer shelves.)
Though still considerably more than the $249 Wii or $279 Xbox 360 Core, the new price point puts the PS3 in the same ballpark as the $349 Xbox 360 Pro and the $449 Xbox 360 Elite. It will also become the cheapest player of Blu-ray Disc media on the market, helping Sony's ongoing efforts to promote the high-definition format. Indeed, the $399 40GB PS3 will be more affordable than any 360 equipped with the console's $179 HD DVD player add-on, though still more expensive than some stand-alone HD DVD players, which cost as little as $299.
The official story: Sony had not responded to comments on the Reporter report as of press time.
Bogus or not bogus?: Given the Reporter's reputation and the fact the console has already been announced for Europe, this is almost certainly not bogus. |

Bumping...
It's now official in Europe, Australia, and Japan.
Still technically just a rumor in NA.

Sony shows SKU-love for everyone but America...so far
By Steve Watts, 10/09/2007
Yeah, Sony, we get it. You don't return our calls, you pretend not to see us at the bar, and now we find out you've been making announcements to other territories. Is it something we said?
With the 40GB PlayStation 3 SKU rumor confirmed in Europe and looking likely for a November release in America, Sony has remained quiet on official domestic announcements. With the rumored release date so far out, though, it's understandable. But today, SCEJ announced the 40GB PlayStation 3 will be making it to Japanese shores on November 11 for 39,980 yen (about $340 USD). The stripped down console will be just like the European model -- two USB ports, no memory card slots, no backwards compatibility. It, and the DualShock 3, will also be available in ceramic white.
In addition, Japan is seeing price drops on existing models by 5,000 yen ($43), which reduces the 20GB model to 44,980 yen ($384 USD) and the 60GB SKU to 54,980 ($469 USD), starting on October 17. This means the larger capacity 40GB is actually cheaper than the 20GB, based on the features it lacks.
Word also comes from GamesIndustry.biz that the new 40GB model will be introduced to Australia at $699.95 AUD (about $620 USD) on October 11. Sony Australia is planning to follow the lead of the European division by phasing out the 60GB model, but it won't be cutting the price of that model to help finish off the current stock since supplies are already so low from this planned change.
If progress continues at this rate, we should see an announcement for an American release any day now. Or hour. Or, possibly minute. |
