I don't think that'll be any less chaotic - have you seen what's going on in Burma? Monks leading revolts, that's what!

On a related note...I guess the difference here is that you put a greater amount of importance on your job than, say, I do on mine. When I started here, I was infomed that I would have to be flexible to staying late once in a while. I'm fine with that, and have stayed a little late on a few occasions. But for the most part, I'm out the door at 5:00 and not looking back and not thinking about the things that are sitting on my desk until I look at them again in the morning because they don't pay me enough to care after 5:00.

But then again, your job seems much more important than mine. Although at first glance, you would probably THINK that my job were more important that it actually is because I have to wear a tie everyday, where most likely you don't...but that's just how my company, and Mr. Murdoch, likes to roll.

And I'm pretty sure a trained chimp could do what I do. He wouldn't even have to be trained very well.

Depending on if executives are touring people or not determines general attire. Although IT tends to lean towards business casual.

Actually, I was thinking monk to get away from technology. So, what do you do for a living?

2 years at Superfresh, no sick days, no days called off, basically a hard working employee. What do I get? F**ked in the ass by both that fat slob of a Store director and the union. NO benefits. No full time, well i had FT for a month then they took it away because of "red-tape" issues, and crap pay. Not only that most of the f**ks there can't keep it in they're pants (a buncha infidelity laden bastards) and they turn around and say I'm wrong for not sayin anything! HELLO!? Earth to sh*t-for-brains! How many times did I tell you I talked to those sloths you call a union? Most of those messages are left by me! ME!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me started on the store director, cuz that fat, bloated ass-hat is soaked in sin! Thats right...SIN! He's the very model of a corrupt individual. Cares nthing of his fellow man, gropes and lusts for power, coos at the sight of large sums of money even if it means ripping away one or two (or three or four or five etc etc) people's jobs, Laughs and jokes at other's misery, kisses ass, and most of all...stupid as a drunk supermodel. I admit I lust for the day he is savagely and brutally murdered. It is not my dream, but many others in my town who wish a horrid death to this man. I apologize for such a dark and distubing rant but I feel my 2 years have been stolen from me. Don't worry folks i work at a coffee house (It's A Grind) and feel so much better, although it's going to take me awhile to get a decent pay. But I'm sooooo happy now. HAPPY! Twisted Evil See my smile!? That's me being h-a-p-p-y! Devil

Have you ever been in the supermarket and seen those red-framed ads sticking out from the shelves? Or the little black (they used to be red) machines that you take coupons from? Or the large decals with ads that get stuck on the floor? Or the framed ads in shopping carts?

That's what my company does. As for me, I process orders to get those ads placed on the shelves, floors, carts, etc. I also assign instructions as to where exactly the ads will be placed within the store, and I assign stores for market research tests.

And then, of course, I maintain records and quantity reports of all past and current orders.

On Sunday of last week, at 4:30 PM, I got a message from one of my clients.

"The server hard drive busted. We had to reinstall Windows."

Now that is never a good thing. Flashback and recap of a 3-week project:

Week 1: A four-day week. I am away on 3 of those days: two for training, and one for a meeting scheduled at a customer's production plant. I learn halfway through the week that my partner on the main project has been stopped dead in his tracks because someone barged in, said we were switching database engines (which is true) and said this would only take five minutes (bullshit.) My partner wasn't able to get anything done for the rest of the week due to his application no longer even starting up.

Week 2: I'm mostly caught in a blur from attempting to get a bunch of things done. I spend all of Monday restoring my customer's server to a barely working state, and learn that their mirror hard drive had, for a reason unknown to them, never been plugged in, thus losing them over two weeks of data. I set them up with a temporary database and they begin the painstaking task of re-entering every single one of their missing transactions as they send the busted hard disk to a data recovery center. I lose my partner again on Thursday as he learns that his father's on his deathbed. Meanwhile however, I get a second partner, whom I assign to a few of the other issues. I stumble through the rest of the week much like a Left 4 Dead player in expert mode.

Week 3: This week. I've begun work on another issue and gotten it done completely within two days. My partner, in an attempt to get a quicker environment to test his code in, prepares himself a setup that is known to work on a completely random basis: it can take anywhere from five minutes to a whole week to make it work, and it looks like that one's aiming for the latter. I voice my concerns at lunchtime, and they are quickly dismissed. Going on four o' clock and with THREE people around the guy's laptop fruitlessly trying to make his test environment work, I recall with about as much subtelty as a thrown brick that our time is better spent elsewhere and we no longer have the time to setup this shit. I am flat out ignored and the guys claim they just need five more minutes to make it work. They were still at it at four thirty and no one in the entire office had gotten the thing to work. Another valuable day down the drain for him.

All this on a background where I am gaining ancestry and thus becoming more and more of a reference for other, fresher coders. That means I have less time to actually code things since I'm all over the place giving a hand. Factor in the customers sending me E-Mails and other messages on a fairly constant basis.

Good work, but I'm starting to lack breathing room here.

Welcome to the club.

Although, to be fair, I do actually still have my job. But for the amount they pay me, I might as well be unemployed.
