As far as I'm concerned Mr. Pitt and Mr. Bloom were put in there for eye-candy for the female half of the population. No girl that I know would have even THOUGHT of going to see it if it wasn't for those two, and every one I know who did wasn't that thrilled with the movie, but they loved the eye candy. And showing Brad's butt was a truly horrific experience for those of us who came to see the MOVIE. *shudder*
|
well you are definaltely right about that one Sperrit! orlando and brad are the only reasons why i would go and see that movie. i mean, for a girl, 2 very hot mean in short leather skirt things is heaven! but i'm not going to see it because i don't enjoy battles and stuff. that bores me. but i may rent it and just fast forward to the scenes that aren't battle and that have brad and orlando. lol thats just the way i am. |

I have to disagree with the statement that no girl would go. I love mytholgoy and love reading Homer. As a matter of fact, this movie only solidified the opinion of mine that Orlando will only ever be able to portray elves convincingly as I found his acting to be pretty much the pretty boy pansy from Pirates. My love affair with him only goes so far when he's sporting long blonde locks of hair. As for Pitt. Meh. The only thing I think I have ever found him attractive in was Fight Club. The long lingering shots of his mug in Troy only envoked laughter of the unbelievably cheesy. I know the director probably had the idea of "We need to make the camera linger on the key players of this movie so that everyone watching knows who is who." Well it felt painstakingly like someone's first year film student shot. Too long and awkward in most cases and always unneccesary.
The movie itself wasn't bad. But in turn there were a lot of things that weren't so good. From now on I think I shall rate movies by how many times I had to shift in my seat for fear of gluteous maximus atrophy. (in other words whenever my butt falls asleep) This I shall have to give it 3 GMAs. Becauser that's how many times I had to shift. |

Then you are of the more enlightened mindset, Dooters. Either that or Mr. Pitt and Mr. Bloom just aren't your cup of tea, which is understandable. As a guy I can securely say that I can't see Brad Pitt as sexy. He just seems kinda greasy and squinty. Of course, I think that Johny Depp looks like a stringy rat, so I guess I'm not too qualified for judging men's looks.
The thing is, I too love mythology, but it seemed as if they took a lot of the myth out of it, ya know? So much of the symbolism in the story was taken out and it seemed reduced to yet another 'war' movie, ala LOTR, which I'm sure they were trying to imitate and failed terribly.

my quote to people explaining the movie:
Quote: | Random person- So Rev/Cal/whatever, how'd you like Troy?
Me- Well, if you never read The Illiad then it could be considered a good movie. |
That is pretty much what I feel about that movie. And I can say with assurance that Eric Bana gave the best performance out of anyone in that movie, and he looked the part as well. |

The guy who played Oddessyus was pretty good too. He gave a great perfomance and probably be a good choice if they were going to do the Oddessey as a movie too. I do agree though that Eric Bana gave a spectacual performance. This movie was just too average though. |

in comparison to what? Gladiator? grrr, this troy bashing isn't cool. I liked the movie. Sure it had it's flaws, and I know what Doot is talking about with the camera lingering at BP's profile as he looks off into the sea, that was pure provaloney. But other than that I enjoyed it.

Brad Pitt was pretty attractive in Interview with a Vampire. As long as he wasn't standing next to Antonio Banderas or Tom Cruise.
We were going to make a field trip out of going to see this for Latin club, but the Latin teach honestly did not want to see it because he was pretty durn sure they would butcher the story. And uh, by what you guys are saying, he was right
I haven't seen it yet though, so I really don't know why I'm posting here ^^;
And also, I hear they didn't have as much romance as they should've... I think? Not too sure here... |

Well, great story though it may be, haven't read it myself, there's only so much they can do and still keep it watchable for those of less enlightened frame of mind (read: most of humanity). All these suggestions that you are all making are probably perfectly valid and such, but imagine trying to do all that and still attract the people who just want to see blood, guts and ass. Make no mistake, that's who most movies are playing for right now, because that is the largest, not to mention easiest to satisfy target audience. I could segue into a diatribe on the woes of money, but this is the wrong thread for that.
I enjoyed the movie, and cannot say that brad's ass is as horrific as some of you make it out to be. I mean, lets be honest here. It's an ass. Everybody's got one. Some, admittedly, are worse than others, but it's just not that nauseating. Or maybe I'm just more tolerant. Who knows? |

Now you're getting into a whole different discussion there, buddy. The crumbling of culture and the pandering to the lowest common denominator ain't the topic here, though I appreciate the sentiments as an alternate way to look at the movie. However, I'd have to say that if all movies were concerned with only making money then we'd be missing some of the most awesome films that have ever been created. Unfortunately, Troy isn't one of them. But, they can't all be gems.
