I always thought your parents were pretty cool, even though they just think I'm insane, but this is really starting to piss me off. Is there anything I can do to help? I know your parents think I'm out of my mind, but still...anything? Hell, I'll buy you the damn tickets if it'll help, man.

I know exactly what you're going through! I went through a period like this with my parents too. It really sucks!! You have to tell them things that will reassure them. Something like I'll have a cell phone with me and you can call me and check in if you like. Also mention to them that the people you'd be going with are older and very responsible, some having jobs and kids. Things like that that will reassure your mom, even if you have to fib a little....
And about the liscence thing. One angle you may want to try with you mom is that if you get your liscence it will help her out a lot. You'll be able to drive your siblings(if you have any), you can go do some erronds (sp?) for her and so forth. Stuff like that may make her think it's a good idea, which it is.
Just remember that soon you'll graduate and move out of the house and have freedom where ever that may be, college or your own place. You won't have all their rules any more, and as you get older you might even become closer with your parents (I know that seems impossible right now). It happened to me. Now my parents are my friends, and things between us are awesome now! Build up trust, it's all about that to parents!!

Things are looking bad for Otakon too, specifically in getting a ride. Originally our group was going to be: Me & Paul, Mark & Amelia, Nate & Tiff (based on who's riding with who). Mark is strapped for cash and none of us can spot him, Tiff and Ame's parents aren't letting them drive to Baltimore because they're scared something's gonna happen to their girls, understandable to a point. (this is what I mean by baltimore being a bad place, parents don't even want their daughters driving there) My mom has decided that if she drives up there, she's staying for the entire convention (which would be murder on my mother). Paul's parents are going away the weekend of the convention.

So it's basically reduced to this: Me (rideless), Paul (rideless), Nate (his mom), Tiff (her mom). (Amelia won't go without Mark)

Now here are my options: Get Paul's parents to drive me and him up to baltimore the day they leave for vacation in the morning (which I'm assuming is Friday) and get my mom to pick us up later that day (this idea probably won't happen). Or bum a ride off of Nate's mother (which is probably the best choice).

There are other small annoyances that are going wrong, i.e. I now have to take money out of my bank to even have enough for the admission, half of the group that was going to meet my group there had to call out, stuff like that.

That chick from Say Anything said "Bad things happen at good times." Right, my life was great, and then a whole bunch of stress fell onto me along with this problem.

The problem is trying to put things like this together when your depenedent on other people. In a couple of years when you have a job and your own pad, you can just up and go somewhere whenever you feel like it. Hang tight, once you get out on your own, you'll have a good thing going on.
