Jobs r lame.

Seriously, if your pulling 21 credits I dunno that you coudl even GET a job, much less coiencde with your hectic schedual. But never fear! There are other ways to make money besides jobs. Especially since it seems liek you dont need THAT much money in the grand scheme. Ever heard of garage sales? Their total crap, no body does that any more. We have advanced to eBay.

First and formost. Screw Barnes and Noble, get your school books on eBay. My wife and mom and subseqyent co-workers have all done it, and its cheaper. Because theres some bum out there jsut like you who really doenst need his "Comtemporary French Literature and Rehtoric 101 edited by Starnes" on his damn bookshelf. College book stores buy them back for pennies so a lot of poeple in our age bracket are selling over eBay. They get more than they'd trade in for it, you get it for less than you coudl buy it new or used.

While on the subject of eBay, look around your abode for htings you dont want/can do with out. I sold an innocent looking 20 page children's book on eBay, in mediorce condition, for 35 bucks. Your trash maybe someone else's treasure. 35 bucks doesnt seems like a lot though, right? Sell ten thigns for that price and youve bought your school books NEW. Anywho, look into that, try it out. All you need is a bank account for Pay Pal and your good to go.

Get a job, Sper. If I could get a job, you can get a job, so just get a job. Did I mention you should get a job?

It's not even just because it'll help you pay off school, it's just because it's nice to have an independent source of income.

hey...if you want, you can take dai's advice and not get a job, or also get an on campus job and get a workstudy program.

That could help!

21? Jesus, I'm only doing 11 and I feel already full. x.X

I know a couple of people at the university have found a job as a night guard. They just check the cameras and stuff, most often in places where the alarm system does the job way before the cameras do. So they end up snoozing on the job. Cash, sleep, and time to study.

Why are you talking 21 credits anyway.

Man overload... that's nuts.

There's nothing wrong with taking a little longer to finish school. But don't kill yourself

I took 5 years!

Good and valid points all. Response:

1. Looking for a job, been looking, will keep looking. Still haven't found one yet. School doesn't offer any (ah, the downsides to Community College, too bad they happen to have the best Music proogram around). I'm not picky, so I'm optimistic. Updates as more news occurs.

2. Silver, you have hit the point dead on: Music classes take up an exorbant amount of time. I'm in two performance classes: Concert Choir and Jazz Choir. That means that I've got two people who are just BEGGING to set up long practice times outside and school and not give a damn about whether or not I (hopefully) have a job. It also means trips. Lots of trips. Why oh WHY can't directors get it into their heads that we might have something better to do!? Like I really want to wallow in Reno for three days, bored out of my gourd, just so that we can have an easy win at a festival! ... but that's another rant, I suppose.

3. I'm taking 21 credits because, for me, it's worth the stress to get out of here. 11 of those 21 are all music classes, so that if I wanted to take a normal load (in the realm of 15 or so, from what I understand) then I could only take one academic class a quarter and I'd be stuck here for years. So, it's worth it, however much brain damage goes along with trying to stick that much information into my head at any given time.

Lastly, I'd just like to say that, really, that rant was for my own benefit. I just needed to get that off my chest. I apologize for taking up space on the bored for such an obvious and surface problem. I know what I need to do, and I'm working on it even as we speak, but I just really needed to let out some steam. Getting sick (on top of everything else) just kinda pushed me over the edge. Thanks for listening to the complaints of a fool.

I understand the need to let off steam, even over small, silly things. Keeps us from causing bigger problems while fuming over the small ones.

Even though I have but one music performance class this semester (Marching band), I get 2 credit-hours for it, but practice 7.5 hrs/wk, plus another 7.5 hrs or so of practice/performance time spent on football Saturdays.

For 2 credit hours, and I pay a lab fee for it. The bowl trips are nice, but the practice time put in should make it worth more credits. Music schools are sadists...

I also know where you're coming from on being overloaded. I lied at 15 so I could get 2 jobs. Now I'm working at a place that requires me to go to school. Good news= they're willing to pay for it (for now). Bad news= they want me to take at least 6 hours a semester and still be totally available at their every whim. I got only one class this semester. It's online. Glad I did that, bc the minute I paid for the stuff (thy reimburse me after I pass the class), they told me I was working nights on the night the on campus class was scheduled to be. It is really hard.

A little subject change, what are you planning on doing with music after school?

I find that the credit rating is very inaccurate in several cases. So is the work count on the course outline. In computer class, we are expected 3 hours of homework per week and I do about 20 minutes, while in Materials class, it was 2 hours but I'd usually end up spending four.

And I have some heavy disadvantage: the first-year program I'm doing, my University plans on abolishing it next year. That's right! I will have done classes that will be taken away, and will most likely receive little to no equivalents for the work I've done! Granted, some of them will still be there since they are crucial to the field, but Materials? Mechanics? Most likely gone, both of 'em. And thus, I'll be in second year, taking specialized classes with first-year newbies. How lame. Help

Yes, schools really seem to have no clue as to how to rate classes. I was in a three credit performance class every quarter last year and I easily spent more time on that one class, inside and out of school, than all my other classes combined. It's just one of the harsh realities of school. They undervalue art and music classes, especially music classes. The amount time and dedication that they require is overlooked simply because it isn't a traditional academic subject. I'm planning on becoming an Opera singer. Any music class furthers that goal, especially singing classes, and I feel like, in some ways, my involvement penalizes me in the eyes of the school (not to mention when I'm trying to find a job).
