....If my school had fencing like yours does Nari......i would fence...but....at the moment the closest i come to fencing is defending myself with a badmittin racket......from my partener in doubles.... and that's just in gym and we don't play by the rules.  |

Well, fencing season is up again, and I have a fencing tournament in Nashville (Vanderbilt University) this weekend.
Damn is it gonna be hard. Some of the best fencers in the country.
And I'll either be really comfortable on Sat., or really nervous. Who knows. |

I've not really fenced, I have had a few training sesions with the fore-runners to modern fencing tho.
Respect for training and taking part.
Just out of interest, do you get different scholls with different approaches to fencing ? |

Well, there's three different swords with three very different techniques, if you could call those different schools.
And most of the coaches have different ways of teaching things, and everyone has their own way of fencing that works best for them within some grounds.
It's not near as strict as asian martial arts, so there's a lot of flexibility within the group. |

Fair enough.
I've been looking into the european sword styles recently, and how the weapons developed and the styles changed, and the marked differences in approach from different countries, I just wondered if that had carried through.
The comparisons between really old western and really old Japanise sword styles seem only as different as different Europeans countries typical approaches. Its just that it all got banned, and brought back as rigid structures after the Second World War. I can't speak too well on other Asian styles. |

The Fencing Nationals are in the week of July 4th, hehe. They'll actually be in Atlanta (what a coincidence ) this year, so you should go (any of the days) if you're interested. I'll be fencing in U19 Women's Foil. I so happy I qualified. So....yeah.
