...or you could loosen and cross your straps in front. I've seen a couple girls do that.

Well, like I said before, I have no problem with the backpacks themselves, just when people don't know how to handle them. I think you'd do just fine with one of them and since you have back... issues... I think you'd be fully justified.

I don't care for rolling backpacks. But I know always transporting one can be a pain. Whenever I can, I drop my pack on the ground if I need to wait or stand or anything, because if I wear it for a few minutes on end, my shoulders hurt like no tomorrow.

Hey, as long as the rollers are standard size, there's no problem.

I don't think anyone should have these things. I don't know why, but they just piss me off. I've really never seen anyone wield one in a bad manner, it just frustrates me whenever I see someone with them. I just think it's ridiculous to be that lazy. When I was in high school, I had a lot of books also, and yet my bag was never that heavy because I made great use of my locker, which is there for a reason. Even in college I don't seem to be having any problems with too many books, even though I have a lot of them. It's just a personal management issue. Why carry around 5 huge notebooks when a 5 subject works just fine? Hell, if I could get away with it, I wouldn't even use my bag because it's that unnecceary in so many cases. I think there are two problems here. 1. People are just too damn lazy nowadays, and 2. People carry around WAY too much crap with them.

So in closing, stop being lazy, and start being more efficient.

And oh yeah...doesn't having a ROLLING backpack defeat the entire purpose of having a BACKpack. If you want something that rolls, carry your crap around in a suitcase...because that's how big some of these ridiculous things are getting.

'Kuki-- although I've -never- had that sort of problem, personally (mine certainly aren't big enough to provide any sort of issue there) I find that carrying a messenger bag might help. You know, the sort that have only the one strap and are carried on your shoulder? I always used to carry my backpacks that way (I think it's a California thing) and then my parents got me this version and it works just as well. There's a little bit less space, but you don't need to be carrying that much when you're only using one strap anyhow.

As far as rolling backpacks-- I hate them. Mostly because I'm clumsy enough as it is, I don't need people walking slowly because they're dragging those things in front of me to help me trip over shite. Not only that, but slow-walking people annoy me in general, and you can't walk quickly and drag one of those things at the same time.

Plus, laziness factor. I understand rolling suitcases, because you don't have to work in such close quarters, and you usually have bazillions of clothing items, etc, you have to carry around with you, but if you want a rolling backpack just because you feel inclined to carry a full set of Encyclopedia's everywhere you go, you need to A) get a life and B) stop being a lazy ass. You want to carry that many books, you ought to actually -carry- them.

Lockers are god.

Even messenger bags don't help the problem, 'Kuki? I was going to suggest them as well. (The Drow beat me to it!) If you're in public school, if you have time in certain segments of the day, carry less in the pack and change off at a locker or waypoint that you have throughout the day. Going home, I can't help you that much, other than possibly suggesting the one shoulder routine, but that will make the shoulder hurt and wear on the backpack.

If you're at college, I really recommend the waypoint method with whatever residence you have. Schedules should work in your favor that you don't have to carry a whole lot of things at once.

As for roller backpacks, it's much like dodging luggage - in crowded hallways it's a nuisnce, if I kick it, I'll likely hurt my foot, and someone who blocks the pathway with theirs will likely get squeezed by or reamed out by someone else.
