I don't think there is anything wrong with remakes. It's just two different visions of the same story....yea....sometime remakes can just be lame, but sometimes another directer can really improve. Lets take Peter Pan, the animated movie. I don't much care for it. But then there was Hook which was a much better show. Finally there was the new Peter Pan. I thought it was GREAT. I liked how tink was jealous of Wendy, how Hook just seemed a bit more.....evil. I just don't think it's fair to dis the movie until it comes out. |

I'm still going to see it. Beucase I like Burton and Depp. Though watching the trailer for some reason it makes me think Clockwork Orange. |

Actually, most movies are based on a book, story, or another idea that is already out there and are not the original brain-child of the movie producers.
That does not bother me because it is a move of one media form to another. Like writing a poem about a painting. It's one person (or a group of people) reading the book, and then putting what they saw in the book onto the screen. I could read the book and see something totally different. That is the wonders of books (I prefer books, anyway, thanks). They are not as concrete as movies and TV are. You are not force-fed a scene, but it is instead left up to your imagination to come up with the scene. Nothing against those who like TV. I just prefer providing the scene for myself out of my own imagination. A good book can really pull me in!
Anyway, the problem I have with remakes is that most are the same storyline, just with some altercations. Someone already took that story and pasted it on the screen for us to see. We don't need that done a second time. As was mentioned, if we want a different view, it'd be good to read the book and come up with our own view of the story. Just my opinion, and why I, personally, don't like remakes. I also don't like them because they tend to ruin a perfectly good movie. Willy Wonka was a great movie. Don't try to fix what isn't broken. |

[quote="GAAZ"]While Depp did the Crazy Pirate thing well you realized that the reason he was crazy was because the Pirate he played developed that personality to throw his foes off-guard. It's kind of easier to play a fake crazy then a real one. While Edward Scissor-hands was a reclusive he also didn't speak much and was a goth...Soooo, eh.[quote]
Have you seen Secret Window? He's a nut job in that one.

Well, im going to see the movie, regardless of how bad some of you think it will be. (Just wishful thinking) You never know, it could be looking at the story in a whole new way....I know it looks a little creepy and stupid, but i gave Napoleon Dynamtie a try, and even though i hated it, i still went to see it, completely disregarding what i heard and thought about it. |

i've heard the new willy wonka is supposed to be more based on the actual book than the old willy wonka. i'm not one to judge this however, never having read the book, but i trust johnny to do a good job with it. secret window did kinda suck, but hey, give the man a break. he's a fantastic actor and a TOTAL hottie. of course tim burton rocks too. any frankenweenie fans out there? hehe
