What if these Castelvania games suck like the PS2 one or N64? Would the DS still be worth it? |

Well considering Aria of Sorrow was awesome, I imagine its sequel will be very similar. Unlike the n64 and ps2 incarnations, the gameplay between the games isn't taking a drastic change (2D to 3D). The 2D castlevania formula has essentially been perfected, so I think its safe to say this should be a good buy.
At any rate, seeing as how I loved Aria of Sorrow, I think I just found a reason to get a DS as well. *Hops on Shino's bandwagon*
Admittedly, the seal thing does sound a bit gimmicky.. just a way to make use of the new hardware, albeit a fairly well-conceived one. But that's not to say they aren't making other improvements as well. I doubt this will be a total rehash of the GBA castlevania games' engines. I would expect to see other types of improvements alongside the on-screen map and boss seals that take advantage of the additional capabilities of the DS hardware. Of course, this is all speculation. |

Umm, whats wrong with the PS2 one? I had a great time playing a new style, it was FAR better than the embarrasment that was on N64, the 2 types are entirely unrelated, they even admitted thier mistake on making the 64 ones, but the PS2 one was a LOT of fun, I still have it and its exciting to play in my opinion. Did you even play it to knock it? |

It's hardly a cop out. If Nintendo wants the new system to succeed, then they have to put all their money on it. The only reason games are still coming out on the GBA is because they were already in development. Besides I like the idea of sealing bosses away. It gives a little bit more realism than having bosses come back from the dead in the sequels. |

We already know the music will rock, considering the DS's sound hardware is 100x better than the GBA. and the graphics will probibly get chrisper. |

As far as the ps2 incarnation goes, it was an extremely well done take on putting Castlevania into the 3D. However, I have one gripe with it that keeps it from seriously competing w/ the quality of the 2D versions. While the battle system and graphics were quite good, it lost a good deal of the exploration aspect found in the previous Castlevania games. This is mostly due to the way in which the castle was laid out. In other castlevanias, the castle is designed such that its a continuously intertwining world on its own. Sure its divided up into sections, but each is connected to the others (with no true centralized point) allowing for a great deal of exploration. However, the ps2 Castlevania was arranged in a more hierarchical fashion, with a central area and self-standing sub areas branching from it, typical of 3D platformers. This doesn't make it a bad game, far from it actually. However, it does detract from the overall experience established by the 2D games. |

Musashi hit the nail on the head. The 3D castlevania was like Konami's attempt to be Devil May Cry which was decent at best with a horrible second game and the third or "Prequel" game looking just as retarded.
Unfortunately he used Aria of Sorrow as his reference to good Castelvania games when Symphony of the Night was da bizzomb. I think I enjoyed Circle of the Moon a lil' more then Aria of Sorrow because after you beat it you could do the "Fireball" version which was hard as hell for someone like me who for some reason can never get all the cards because the games..They hate me. |

I use Aria of Sorrow simply because that's the game this topic is discussing. Symphony of the Night is definitely my favorite. I haven't played more than about five minutes of Circle of the Moon, so I can't really comment there. I do find it odd though that my two favorites in the series (symphony and aria) are the ones that 1. You don't play as a Belmont and 2. Your character uses a sword instead of a whip. Go figure. |

Duh, in SOTN you're Alucard...And he's teh Shiznit. He was my favorite character in Castelvania 3. I'd use him over a Belmont any day.
My problem with the new games is that it's no longer the Belmonts fighting..It's splinter lines of Belmontonia. I mean they have Cruz and Rodriguez...WTF! And there was never a femal Vampire hunter with the last name of Belmont so you can't assume that at one time no Belmonts could have males to pass on the Belmont name. |
