I liked it enough to say that it won't stop me from watching any more of them. Just expected more from it I guess. Reading the book so freshly before hand really did ruin the essence of the movie. I agree with you Dai - it felt like little vignettes pasted together with no cohesive flow aside from the triwizard tournament.
All of the other films at least had that. Maybe that's what I was missing. Sure it had enough eye candy that flashed you around a good bit. As far as the films go - Prisoner is much more my favorite due to the rich character introductions and the concentration to the story that had a seamless flow. Books - Goblet. But the movie just merely felt like a visual Cliffnotes of the book. So I tried to figure out what the big difference was and it was the directors but I never once felt like we were outside of the Harry Potter universe and the sets and the atmosphere were wonderful - don't get me wrong. And I looked at the screenwriter and lo and behold it's the same guy all throughout all movies.
I merit it to him having an off day with writing, maybe handed in the rough outline and let the director roll with it. Let him cut what he wanted out of it and just have at it. It does make me wonder if the director had read it prior to directing the film adaptation.
So I may not be a fangirl on the level of PRG, but I still consider myself a fan. And based on that, I feel it just lacked the things that should have made it a much better films, for those who read it.

That review pretty much sums up my feelings otherwise. |

Meh, I just didn't like it that much. It tried to be "The Two Towers" in visuals without any of that nifty coherent story stuff getting in the way.
They went to class all of 3 times. I also thought it jerked around more than a Tarantino flick.
Now as for the bad writing of JK Rowling. The egg clue was rediculous. Hold it under water and you learn you need to breathe for an hour underwater...Big flippin deal! The old bag lady can turn herself into a cat without ANY potions. What's to stop a (Remember, must be 17 to be in the tourney) young wizling from polymorphing himself/herself into a full blown shark and getting the job done? Need 2 months to prepare my ass!
Then the U-ball. Every year before everyone went home. This year there's a ball due to the tourney and everyone stays...Which leads me to this point. They never said the tourney was every 3 years or like 16 years or anything. So how come in the past 3 movies/books they never made a big deal out of the chosen of the school going to foreign lands to participate? All of a sudden there's a penultimate tournament that no one ever knew about till that day! I call it shotty writing myself especially if it isn't mentioned in the next book.
Also, I am a fan of DBZ...I luvs me some DBZ. I hate that JK Rowling decided to send Harry Super Saiyan 2 and defeat Cell...Oh wait...I meant have his parents help focus his power beam at Voldemort so he could get away.
Basically Rowling is a great writer in the sense that Shakespeare was a great writer when he stole most of his plays from Sir Francis Bacon.
Oh I forgot...If there is EVER a problem that is going to happen at Hogwarts look at the "Defense against the Dark Arts" teacher long enough and you'll get your answer.
I just can't wait for Harry Potter and the Tower of Nakatomi. Snape is gonna rule ass in that movie! |

Point A) They neglect to mention this in the movie, which is retarded as it only would've taken five seconds, but they had stopped having the Tournament/Yule ball because the Tournament had killed a few folks. They decided to have it this year because with all the Voldie support going on, they wanted to try to bring the schools together.
Point B) I really don't want to watch Harry go to -every- class he has to go to. This would be extraneous filler, and take up time that could be much better spent, say, with footage of the Quidditch Cup, which was also cut out.
Point C) Harry is much too young to transfigure himself without seriously hurting himself. Viktor Krum was much older than Harry, and still totally screwed up changing himself into a shark. Harry wouldn't even have a clue how to try. |

Point B) Harry in class = Hilarious and strong foreshadowing like in all the other movies. Harry in no classes = Hogwarts is Wizard Summer Camp.
PointC) The Tournament wasn't meant for people under 17...At 17 you would have know the spells. The Clue was designed for the legal participants...Harry being Illegal invalidated the need to be prepared.

As mentioned, Viktor wasn't even able to transfigure himself properly, and he was eighteen. It is -very- difficult to master transfiguration at all. Therefore, it is logical to assume the Champions would need time to come up with another solution. Only registered Animagi (such as Professor McGonagall) are really good at transfiguring into any particular animal. Transfiguration is usually used for turning object/animals into other animals/object. Not using on humans. |

Gaaz, you are a victim of the movie not portraying the book correctly.
Honestly, if you ever wanna read it, I'd be happy to let you borrow it. |

And as was mentioned Viktor had "Saw Dust" for brains. So being an idiot at 18 he needed to prepare more however anyone else should be able to pull off the spell easily. Especially since dumbasses shouldn't be in tourneys to show how great they are.

I'll get around to reading the rest of the HP books when I run out of real books to read. Granted if the story in Hitchhikers Guide doesn't pick up a bit that may be sooner than originally thought. |
