Lol, this is stupid, look at these book descriptions. Particularly the one on teh communist manifesto

Get out, the commuists were demons, they were people. Im not very impressed with the idea of the list.

Just like I had said, Americans equate Communists to evilness, which is almost never the case. It's only because we preach acceptance until we're blue in the face, but once some unconventional idea comes around, we chastise and belitte it. But I won't keep going for fear of entering the "forbidden zone".

I agree completely with Daijaga on this one. Many of the descriptions seem less like actual reveiws of the material in the book, or even the historical significance of it, and more of anti-thought cold war propaganda. Which saddens me, as I thought the list would at least base it on true historical significance.

Yeah, it's all about balance, control, power, domination. With knowledge spread out in people's mind, you make them go ''self-aware'' of the world they live in and of possibilities they might have never thought of before, because they just thought ''our way is the only way'' ... and that can lead to revolution, which leads to loss in balance, control, power, and domination. Which all leads to a lot of financial loss too. Which is all bad in the world we live in :p

hmmm yep Dai nailed it Cool

but books subject matter can only really be harmful if someone reads it... But big books hurt like hell when thrown, so i think we should make a new list, a list of the top 10 of the (real) most harmful books... im talking big ass pointy hard cover books, ones that will strike fear n the hearts of the wicked Mr. Green

*stupid first hand harmful book experience follows*

Many summers ago Judgement Sevens n I (yeah he is a po but he quit posting n coming around a while back) were really bored, n we use to have a habit of creating stupid games to play to cure our boredom, so the two of us n the other none po friend that was with us decided to play a new game... we called it "Book Tag" (see his father is a VERY avid reader n the majority of the walls n his house are just bookshelves packed full lol) the game consisted of us just running around the house n grabbing a book n then throwing it as hard as we could at the first person we saw... despite its stupidity it was actually quite fun... n lol u have never known an adrenline rush like the one u get doging an encyclopedia flying at ur head at high speeds...

That list reads more like a "Everyone Must Read These Books" to me. To a neoconservative mindset (and it is a conservative site that is publishing this list), though, these are some of the most harmful books they could come across. They promote all the things that the neoconservatives are against.

I'm a bad student, though. While I recognize most of the names on the list... I haven't read any of them. At least not in totality.

Still, I wonder what a liberal viewpoint would generate as the ten most harmful books of the past two centuries...

Its stupid and pointless. Ideas perhaps can be dangerous in the wrong hands, but its still falls to the fact that that person is dangerous. Aristotle said that the mark of an intellegent mind is the ability to entertain a thought withought excepting it. One of my best firends is agnostic. He read the bible and is currently reading the Torra, and the Korran. He sais that knowing the other side, and his resons for beliving what he belives, makes his beliefes all that more solid to him. There are no dangerous books... unless there is one that bites.

That's ridiculous. I can't imagine that what I've read would make ANY difference, and I have to say that I have to side with Excel on this one. I was forced to read the Communist Manifesto in school. So if I'm in ROTC, am I supposed to tell my professor that I can't read the book he's assigning because it's a matter of national security? If that's the case, then I guess I can't see Shindler's List, American History X, or even the Indiana Jones Trilogy. You can probably take it even further and say I can't see Star Wars because it portrays an "evil corrupt government".

And since there seems to be such an emphasis on morality in this country, I guess I can't join the military if I've ever seen a naked boob also. Because everyone know that everyone in the military is squeaky clean.

Blackmage, I just want you to know that this isn't an attack against you or your friend in the military. It's just frustrating to think that nonsense like this actually exists which has no bearing on anything in reality. It wouldn't surprise me if they asked your friend that, just because it further proves the colossal stupidity of some things.

That reminds me of a list of books banned in local school districts in Georgia. It just didn't. Make. Sense.
As for this list in particular, I dissagree with the title 'harmful' If it was controversial, then maybe, but still...
