Question:
How does one -get- diabetes?
Because now you guys are worrying me. I consume tons of sugar on a daily basis and I am lacking in physical activity. |

Most of the time it runs in the family. In other cases like mine i had a bad reaction to my MMR shot as a kid and it killed my pancreas over time till it stopped producing insulin when i was 7. In the case of Type 2 most people get it from being out of shape. This one is easier to manage because you are not insulin dependent. |

My case was heavy drinking... and obscene amounts of Mountain Dew. 12 pack a day, people. |

yet another reason why i keep away from teh booze.
But aside from that, Ming and I's cousin was diagnosed with diabetes. From waht i can understand (you guys can correct me, cuase I'm not too sure about it) he ate LOTS of sugars and such, causing him to get diabetes. It also does not run in the family, so I don't think its terrible, but the fact of the matter is that he has to check himself loads just in case.
As far as my health, im there with BM...im probably gonna die from high cholesterol, though lately, ive been having a salad for lunch to give myself a healthier alternative.
As for the Atkin's diet, Ming, myself, and even UP (since she knows us) as well as Rev (who should know it too) know about it, because of my dad's fervent push of it from the very beginning. And let me tell you: Through all of the ordeals he's been through recently, he seems to be holding well with everything. Thats partly because he not only participated in the diet, but also did a lot (and I mean a LOT) of road biking. Because he ate like that, everything he made at home reflected it, and Ming, Myself, and my mother all ate the same way. It really is an interesting diet based on an interesting principle...just most people dont think about the exercising part. I know that when i started it, I was road biking, and afterwards, i started working at the cafe, where I'm constantly moving and working myself around the cafe.
Anywho senor, I hope your future endeavors are silver-lined. Remember, you know I'm always on the internet, as well as the rest of the PO...so take your pick of whose shoulder you need...there is always one for ya. |

Wow guys I think I may be in the same boat with you all later in life.
Diabetes runs in my family and I do a lot of drinking and eat A LOT of sugary junk food. On the other hand I stay VERY<*underlined* active.
But on another note my father has been diabetic for many years now and he is doing ok.
but for all you diabetics out there be warned it can bring many othere problems with it.... bad eyes...circulation issues....ect.
but if taken care of it is very managable |
