>_> That's what I want to do. Get a taste of Japan, learn Japanese IN the country, have a small job... then pursue in a school AFTER that. <_<; |

...Well, here's my knowledge--
One says "How do you live in Japan"
And I say to her "Young Padawan, you live in Japan just as you do all things...Very carefully."
Well, you know. Lots of traffic over there.
I'll look and see what I have. But learning Japanese is key. And remember, in Japan, most people exist in a shoebox. So, kiss your space bubble goodbye and prepare for hard work.
But both of us know you can do it if you really try. |

Go prepared, not thrust into the atmosphere where you are virtually a stranger, no matter how much you may feel you can handle it.
It will be better for you to get your bearings in familiarity and then travel than vice versa.
I feel with the bucking of the information and the overall concensus of the same advice you are holding out for someone to tell you the decision to just hop skip and jump straight to Japan. I care about your future and would hate for you to not heed the opinions of folks who all care likewise.
You have so much time in your life to get there. Go prepared. And by prepared - go smartly WITH an education already intact. |

Well like I said I know know as I am not a school councilor or anything. But what your talking about sounds more like the school trips. Those things count for a few elective credits but not much more than that, at least at anyschool i have checked around here. I was talking about actual exchange programs where you put in a semester or more at a university there takeing classes to pursue your degree.
But like I said don't take anyone's word here for anything concerning your academic future, you need to talk to some people who set up this kinda thing as thier job.
All my research has been into study abroad things in china, so I only know about those lol
I think Ultra gave the best advice though, japan is not going anywhere. Take your time and do it right, that way you will be able to have a good job and live a comfortable life. Lord knows its damn near impossible to work a low wage job in the states and get by, its gotta be crazy in japan with cost of living being so high. Especially since I have read that there are still a small amount of xenophobic tendancies in japan, especially in employment markets. |

My advice...go balls to the wall if you want to. Find out what the legal specifications are to living in the country, do some money calculations, save up the cash...try to make some friends over there or to go with you and do it. So far it seems there are few ways to stay in the country long term, but I bet there are special houses and renting establishments...jobs in non urbanized areas doing manual labor (yes, there are rural areas in a country of that size and population). If you're really not planning on staying there (and judging from the descussion you're not) just jump in, if nothing else do a 2-3 week tour of the country. You can tell a lot about a place in a few days, you could see Okinawa, Tokyo, Kyoto, and decide from what you see if it's worth further investment of time and money. But be safe, you can't come home, and you can't go again if ya do something stupid...like sneak across the border...wait, wrong country. |

hmmm YAY FOR JAPAN
But right now I'd say it's as safe to be anywhere on these 4 wonderfull islands as it is to be anywhere in the countries adjacent the northern regions of Irak.
With North Korea being all ''you want to stop us from selling stuff to you? ah, sounds like a declaration of war to us!'' *cough*btw we gots nukes and u know it we just did underground tests not long ago lol*cough*
But yeah! Hopefully it'll all be resolved in a matter of months! (and hopefully I'm not sounding like some people at the beginning of WWII ... wait does that mean I just jinxed it all? my bad if I did! ) |

hmmm...I'm just gonna say this. Moving to Japan after this recent turn of events is probably not gonna happen. And as far as the whole NK thing... all we can do is sit it out and wait. And while NK does have the bomb... as we can all see from July's ballistic tests...they can't shoot it very far if they do. Sorry Seoul...but you knew it was coming. |
