yeah you need the wifi max dongle.

The reason is that Xlink uses wifi max to actually receive the signal then ends it over the pc's internet connection.

What's a wifi dongle?? Is it a modem cuz I already have one. Jeez and people look up to me for computer know-it-all. Just because I gots glasses doesn't mean I'm a freakin geek. I'll kill this computer if I didn't want to...DAMMIT!

Anyways, whats the dilly gonna be about the selection on clothes, weapons, and room decor? Will I need to pop online to get some things that I couldn't offline? I hope I can gamble at that city place. I swear I'm a freakin addict!

If you have a PSP... GO GET IT. It's in Japanese, but it's worth figuring out (and it's easy to figure out if you played PSU).

Ok, I just put about 40 minutes into this game during lunch.
Holy Crap am I impressed. I played in Multi-mode instead of Story mode.

First of all, it looks just like the PS2 version except there's noticeable pop-up in the backgrounds, but that doesn't bother me at all.

The cities are Menu driven pretty much. There is a background image of where you are, and then you choose where to go. I actually started out in Parum. I went into the GRM shop, and it basically gave me an overhead view of what the GRM shop looks like in PSU. I just selected the counter-person I wanted to talk to and they would give me my buy/sell options. Very streamlined and well done.

I was able to do one mission. I was surprised to see that the first mission I was offered on Parum was basically Plains Overlord (Dragon mission). I was a little worried being a level one against level 5 enemies, but it didn't take long to level up. Plus they start you off in pretty good shape. Saber/pistol combo, Sword and spear for the Hunter. I ended up getting through the entire mission and I fought the dragon. By the time I got to him I was level 5, about to be level 6. He is pretty much the exact same as PSU's dragon at level 10, except when he flies, he shoots the homing fireballs much more often than he does his stream of fire.

Anyway, I ended up beating him and 700 xp later I was level 7. Good stuff.

And the best part... LOOOOOOOOOOOOOT W0000000000000T!
In the first mission alone, I picked up 3 rare items (no idea what they are since it's all in japanese). I also got a set of 3* Twin Claws (which very much resemble Vahra Claws). I also got a set of 3* Twin Daggers, and after beating the Dragon, I got a B rank Sword and a B rank Pistol... neither of which I can even use yet! I didn't check their star value.

So, the loot is there, and even more encouraging is that I didn't pick up ANY synth mats! I don't think this means there is no synthing though. There is a space for synth mats in your item menu. It may be that the demo just doesn't have them.

People... if you loved PSO, but were a bit turned off by some of the stuff in PSU, PSPortable is where you want to be!
