No, no one in either of our families have a ring like that, at least to my knowledge. While we were looking at rings, Mary discovered that style (from a Tiffany ring, I think), and decided that that was the style she wanted. I did some research on it before we bought the one in the picture, and found out that it's called a Halo setting (that is, the center diamond is surrounded by a ring of smaller diamonds).
Also, you'll notice that the diamond is set without prongs, which is a bit more unusual. In my research I discovered that this is called a bezel setting, as opposed to a prong setting. Actually, the setting that we did get was originally supposed to be prong set, but we thought the Halo setting was better suited to a bezel, so we had the jeweler cut off the prongs and use a bezel instead. He also informed us that the bezel setting is actually more secure than the prong setting.
And if you couldn't tell by now, I also discovered that all this gemology/jewelery stuff is actually pretty interesting. I may end up reading some more into it if I get the time.

Yeah, that vintage look is one of the things we really liked about it, and one of the things that we were looking for in the first place.
On another note regarding the ring, because I bought it in the Caribbean, Mary had it appraised to make sure that everything was legit. Not only was everything legit, but the ring actually appraised for more than I paid for it. So I'm quite happy about that. |

Thanks everyone! Things have been a bit chaotic, but not because of the wedding, but just life in general. I'm going to school again on Monday and Tuesday nights, which makes it a bit crazy.
We haven't set a date just yet, but hopefully it will be some time this year.
