While I will admit that I got lucky enough to come from a rather well off family, I did go to daycare, and my parents made sure to instill into me those oh so wonderful midwestern views of life that both of them came from. I guess you can say that I was receptive to it because I am originally from Ohio, and still have very close ties to my family out there. |
Thank you for your kind words Rev. From reading your posts, And you saying that you were pretty well off, it is pretty obvious to me that your parents did it right. You seem to have your head on straight.
Reverend wrote: | My point about society was that you end up attracting people in your life with similar views of upbringing as you. I can almost guarentee that Doot, Sakura, Shino, Sciler, and Chibi Knight have very similar views on life as you based on how friendly you all are. |
You are pretty much right about that. We all have a pretty laid back attitude toward life. We all have pretty much the same priorities, although they may come in a different order. Sakura is still young and we do what we can to try to lead her in the right direction.
Right Mak!
To get back to topic. I feel much better that they caught these two guys. I think the evidence pretty much says it was them that did all of these horrible things. The found the weapon in the car, the car was modified so they could easily do a job and then get out without being noticed. Then they linked them to the killing in AL. I have to say, theres not much hope for these guys, and to think that this guy got is 17 year old STEP son involved. That's just sad.
And we go back to things being based on the parents. Because of this "stepparent" this 17 year old boy is probably going to be sentanced to the death. Think about it. He hasn't even lived out 1/4 of his life. So sad. |

Wow, Shino. Like Rev, I would have to say that my respect for you grows.
And, yes, I'd have to agree with you about the shooters, Shino. It's a frightening thing to think that someone could be depraved enough to essentially sentance some 17 year old kid to death because of your personal convictions. But then again, seeing as this guy seems to have no regard for anyone in this world but himself it's not overly surprizing. Just goes to show you that step/parents can have an enormous impact on the life of their children.

Actually they found out they aren't actually related. They were just friends, and the teenager thought of him like a father. |

That makes me even more upset. Hey.. I want to randomly kill people... lets mess with some 17 year old kid and see if I can get him to do it too.

Now you see, under the reign of El Supremo ('course which would be me) guys like that would be forced to leave the gene pool in the most creative way possible. You do not take a persons life into your hands and screw it up for your own personal pleasure. It's just plain sickening. |

I have to agree with Rev whole heartedly. People like that are the most terrible of all, those that maniplulate other people for their own ends, especially the ones that go after the young and the more impressionable. It's just wrong.

Hmmm, that reminds me of a movie. You know, the one where a guy killed a couple with friend and then he got sentenced to death and in the movie you see how guilty he felt and how actually he was just intimidated by the other guy with him that killed and raped the girl and not to dissapoint his older friend, he killed the guy. The worst thing in that is that the guy who killed AND raped the girl got sentenced to life in jail. The one that killed the guy because he got influanced by his friend got death sentence ... that's just a question of how "good" your lyers, err, lawyers are (spell?) ... B.S. that is, and they claim to call THAT "justice". (the movie was based on a true story) |

I believe the title of that movie is Dead Man Walking, a great movie and a great book. And indeed, it is a good point. Often things happen like that where the person is truly repentant about what they have done and it was all done in the heat of the moment. I have a hard time believing that about this guy, however, because of his pure clinical dealing of death and it's repetition. He knew what he was doing, and I truly hope that he realizes one day that what he has done is wrong. In this sense I hope that he does not get the death penalty because in the end it is that realization that is the true torture for anyone.

Well, I'd hate to speak for everyone, but I'm sure that everyone would agree that we all value each other's opinions around here and it's always good to hear another Otaku's opinion, no matter what it is. That isn't to say that we won't discuss it with you, or even argue with you, but we're always glad to hear it. And, yes, I'm sure that the government has a certain amount of blame to be given to them in this incident, but I think that it's a lot of combined factors that cause something like this to happen, and that's what really gets a lot of people, because they want it to be simple and easy, one bad guy one cause, but it's never really that easy and it frustrates people that there isn't always a clear cut cause that they can attack. Ah, the complexities of our society.
